I hate seeing skaters dressed up like scene kids. Tight jeans look terrible and it is still beyond me how it can be remotely comfortable fitting the male anatomy into that tiny little space.

i think skateboarding is definitely more technical, but rollerblading is ten times more ballsy and they can go a lot bigger than any skateboarder. did you see that fakie back flip over the gap? of that huge drop onto a ledge? no way skateboarders could even try to do something nasty and death defying.
but i dont like to compare sports so ill stop it there.
and ska freak, i wear tight pants when i skate :D
PS im insanely stoked for this movie, this is the first time i got to see the trailer!

Another example of why rollerblading is the craziest sport ever...
I'll have to get this vid... I haven't bough one since barely dead.. and that one is pretty old now

Wow. Truly amazing stuff in those videos. Those guys go huge. Alas, sometimes one has to realize their age, understand the frail nature of the aging human body and live vicariously. I have a set but not for park - I was given a pair of the casual types by K2 and plan to lick the jar in that way. Use it as a training tool in the off season. You guys go get it and post up the videos so those of us less capable can appreciate you. Oh, but don't get too cocky or I'll back over you in a vehicle that costs twice as much as you've made in your entire life. Yuk yuk yuk

haha, I see a few trips to the ER for me over the summer.
mahatma
02-13-2009, 11:27 PM
GOM,
But there are huge difference between you and me visiting the ER for such reasons. With you, a hot nurse will patch you up and tell you to be careful out there. I get Nurse Ratchet who makes it clear that they fix physical injuries at the ER but I should consider visiting the mental/emotional repair ward down the hallway and to the right.
DennisEvans
02-13-2009, 11:33 PM
I don't think you understand how many times I have been to the ER...they know me by name and say, "Oh God...Dennis...what did you do this time?"
mahatma
02-14-2009, 01:27 AM
GOM,
Oh, in that case the mental/emotional repair ward is down the hallway and to the right. Bring proof of insurance and if needed a letter from your guardian authorizing psychotropic medication in large doses.

Hah, the ER is way too expensive, superglue and homemade casts are great.
By the way, I skate in a suit. A business suit. With an impact suit under it. :P
Got to have style out there.

***Hah, the ER is way too expensive, superglue and homemade casts are great.***
Ahh, if life were so easy. Actually, here hospitals are pretty cheap. It's semi-socialized. As long as you have a full time job your employer is required to issue you a health card which covers 70% of your bill and there are a number of secondary insurance schemes that covers the rest for essentially pennies. For example, I have one of the best (most expensive) secondary plans and for the equivalent of about $120 a month my entire family is covered 100% to include medicine, dental (not cosmetic), optical - you name it and there is no monetary, time or treatment type limitations. The only caveat is it only kicks in if you become an in-patient. But here, you can go to the hospital with a paper cut and if you request to be hospitalized it happens immediately. A few years ago when my son broke a few fingers and shattered his thumb riding his bike a surgeon fixed him up and he could have come home right away but I stayed in the hospital at his bed side with him overnight so the insurance covered 100% of the surgeon costs, casts, medications, follow-up visits, rehab - the works. It's all inclusive as long as you begin as an in-patient and there is absolutely no additional paperwork because it's recognized by the established medical system. Pretty good stuff. The only plans up from that cover all types of visits to include outpatient, cosmetic dental work and things like that. But, the cost of those plans get steep in a big hurry because that stuff is outside of the government supported medical system (as it were) so the insurance company is shouldering 100% of those costs.

hm pretty interesting concept, in canada we have universal health care but we are slowly moving towards a two tier health care system, where if you want to and have the money you can go to a private clinic or hospital.
i personally am not too fond of that, but its still too early to see how this new private sector will impact the public health care system. the worst that could happen is the deterioration of the public sector, due to better paying jobs in the public. on the other side, it might free up the somewhat crowded public sector.

Roussell,
Being American, this is the only system of this type I know. Here, there are private doctors that are part of the system and those who are not. You are not required for example to go to certain hospitals for treatment. You can call a private practice and just ask if they accept the government health card. Not the slightest idea what the rules are surrounding that of course. In my experience, absolutely all of the private family doctors are part of the system, most of the specialists like skin, thyroid, diabetic, etc. are also part. The only doctors I've experienced hit or miss with are dentists and sports therapists/chiropractors. Some are and some aren't.

Hah, you're a lucky guy then mahatma. My insurance covers like 80% or something, up to $1000 a year. Not a lot. It cost me over $120 out of pocket for them to x-ray my foot when I was run off the road on my motorcycle. I can only afford one of those a year!
As far as the suit getting hot. YES. Luckily the skate parks here are under freeway overpasses. It's usually shaded.

for some reason I can't remember their name, cult 8's i think.
They are the #1 selling pair on RW, and after reading the reviews, figured that they would be the best option for me.

OMG CULTS ARE AMAZING! best skates out there. i love razor skates. i like valos style but razors are the best. i have some ghetto cult 3's that are to small for me. im letting my friend use them but for myself i got these http://secure.rollerwarehouse.com/item/RAZORS/ARAGON_2_PRO_SKATES/id/110RAZ8101/ with renegade swiss bearings. these skates are amazing. i need to skate more though. i think im gonna make an edit on my practice box.
I have some cult 8's.
Nice boot (as far as I can tell, my first) but the liners hurt my ankle to the point that I couldn't skate, so I had to get some new ones (I have weird ankles) I like the skates.

thats normal man. you have to break the liners in. it can take anywhere from like 2 days to a month. and you always wanna size down with skates. i wear a 10-10.5 shoe and i have size 9 skates.

i foudn they skated really good, but didnt like the weight distribution, they are really light skates at the top, and all the weight is on the bottom with the frames and wheels and soul plates. i felt like i was waking with mud stick to my shoes.

I grew up on this stuff. Driving was "forbidden" my my house hold until the age of 18. So when i wanted to go somewhere it was on blades. While my tricks werent on the same level as some of these guys, i was no stranger to the rails and jumps. I've since gone back to casual skating during the summers, but it truely is a fun sport.
I watch some of that stuff, esp in the ONE video, and it brings back shuddering memories. I'll never forget my first encounter with a steep stairway rail. *shudders*

Ha I hear ya I grew up in the Bronx and was in roller hockey league for a while. The parks where we played were great for tearing it up afterwards. I remember when everyone started removing the middle wheels for grinds before skates were made for them. I'm in the same boat with tricks no where near what these guys did. But I still have plenty of scars from stair rails :D
