Hello All from the Tahoe Shredfest , Sorry I have not had any time to post or up to now , just having too much fun! In fact not much time for words now as am heading out to ride again this am ... . I hope others will post their pics and vid and thoughts here ... let me just say this was a most FABULOUS event , we got to ride with G , Ben , and Kirk and with a whole bunch of great new friends and old virtual friends who we have never met . Sunday was a day spent in a blizzard up at Kirkwood in which we divided into small groups .. Sorry that I did not get to ride with you El slurpo and sorry that you had to leave so soon and not join us on Monday ! Valmorel and I were to busy trying to follow G , Ben and Kirk as they went high speed off the steepest lines in Kirkwood , we did manage to keep up until towards the end of the day the guys decided to huck a cliff and we wisely chose a slightly safer and more suitable way down the mountain for our rather ancient and brittle bodies. conditions were great at Heavenly on monday , we had some sunshine , broken clouds, and snow storms all mixed together we were able to all ride together all day and it was just fabulous ...

Here is a vid clip of Ben showing his stuff in a snowstorm at Heavenly

we did manage to keep up until towards the end of the day the guys decided to huck a cliff

How big of a cliff out of curiousity. I almost sent one with about 8 feet of exposure this weekend, but the landing was a little too flat and hardpacked to hit it. With a little bit of powder it was definitely solid though. I'm mostly curious because that is where I see my riding getting ready to progress.

That looks awesome. Especially after the Jay Jam, I really wish I had been able to make it out to Shredfest. Next year I'm hoping to do both.

Ha, that tree skiboarding is definitely different then what we have on this end of the country.

Just got back home from Shredfest. Heavenly had some of the best snow conditions folks had seen! Weather Sun at Kirkwood was wet snow and rain and wind... but we had FUN! Heavenly weather on Monday was better for sure but still had some high winds, but the gondola was open, yeah! They will be LOTS more pix and footage to come... lots.
I did ride the Spruce 120's in Kirkwood and I liked them!!!! They are great boards for sure and we'll be picking up another pair for my husband!
Today, Tuesday weather was ALL SUNSHINE and Sierra At Tahoe looked perfect for those who were able to ride today!
The best part was meeting everyone and just having fun together as a group on Skiboards! Everyone will definitely do it again next season and the next and the next... really cool to have met the R8 Team too, just a great nice fun group!
I must say that I think my feet issues which I have not had with the BWP's were from riding a longer nd heavier board! ugh.

Skafreak , sierra at tahoe today , in the trees today was covered with big boulders with nice deep pow , .. with nice soft snow piled up over the other side , nice pillow lines in certain areas.
Rather than riding over a snow covered boulder and landing nicely on the other side , i ran into into one and flipped over the top on to my face !

Damn! Ben & Kirk are gonna be pissed when they see the conditions from today at Sierra... when we looked at the footage almost all of the shots were unusable because of the grey out conditions, or the lens being fogged and wet... Otherwise we would have gotten some good stuff, I blame the equipment and conditions - not the super sexy camera operator... damn that guy was awesome.

G got some pretty sick stills though - i'm sure they'll turn up after a couple days somewhere...

keep up the blog - I'm lovin it!

I'm really playing with the idea of hooking up with you guys later in the week when you make your way to the north shore side... hmmm...

Which boards are most of you guys using to tackle the conditions?

It was a variety of boards being used; KTP's, Revolt's, 120's, Sherpa's... someone had Condors, Rumspringa's... and some short Atomic 120's. There were also 90cm boards being used too... once they got out off the chopped up sticky stuff they were fine.

I think the KTP's & 120's and Revolt's were good for the conditions, especially Sunday at Kirkwood where it was sticky wet thick snow.

He didn't need to even ride the 120's to know that he needs them! He did ride the KTPs the whole time there for the first time and he said it was the best riding he has ever done, he was able the be very aggressive on them and the boards just wanted more!

Howdy all,

Great to see all the reports and pictures filtering in. Carolyn and I sure enjoyed meeting everyone and just wish we’d been able to stay long enough to ride with more folks…we had to head back Monday and probably would have stopped by Heavenly for at least part of the day on our way back to the airport if we hadn’t been fretting about road conditions and making flight times…looking back on it I wish we had, the roads weren’t that bad. We allowed WAY too much driving time and wound up sitting at the airport when we could have been having fun with everyone at Heavenly.

It was great to put faces with names and besides having a common interest it’s like being around a “hall of fame” of nice folks to hang with. Now when I tell Carolyn about some comment or suggestion Wendell made, her response won’t be “who the heck is Wendell?” LOL.

The highlight for us was riding with Slow, Maria, Chad, Cindy, Dave and the “Timber Creek gang” (I know, I’m forgetting a bunch of names) on Sunday afternoon at Kirkwood, that was a hoot. We should figure out how to do this again.

We’re looking forward to seeing the pictures and reports (thanks, Jack!) on how the rest of the week goes. I know y’all are having a big time!

Great pics & vids!

Heather & I had a blast! It's too bad conditions weren't ideal for those of us that couldn't stay long. Kirkwood was like work getting down some of those runs. (The Wall was our first double black.....good thing there was 2+ft of pow to land in.)

Heavenly gave us the good & the ugly of what it has to offer. Great groomed runs, plenty of woods with good pow & a hellish wind on occuassions. On a bright sunny day there's really nothing better IMO. Great runs, no lift lines, gobs of terrain, & one hell of a view!

If anybody wants to come up to Heavenly, let us know. We're always down! (or any other resort in the area for that matter)

-Shaun

Hi from Squaw Valley. Just arrived a little while ago. This week has been great. Fantastic people who are a ton of fun.

Jack, Valmorel and Wendell, sure made me go past my mental limits yesterday at Sierra at Tahoe. Great conditions, weather and coaching from the experts. I sure appreciated their advice and patience. I hope I did not slow them down too much.

Matthies good to hear that your speed is increasing. BTW, we clocked a top speed of 41 mph at Sierra at Tahoe, with the great snow conditions and long runs yesterday.

I will post pics and video when I return home this weekend.

Meeting up with Valmorel, Jack, and Wendell here at Squaw tomorrow morning. Should have about 6 inches of fresh powder.

Hey guys,

I haven't gotten through all the posts yet but thanks so much for the videos and pics. You guys look great. Pinkkid - so cute. Jack - smooth as silk and love that natural pop to your turns. Where did you buy that? Slow - yea, easing it on down. I like. I feel the need to show up next year and introduce you guys to some old fashioned gorilla skiboarding. Ha ha. Again, you guys all look great. I'll work on my skills and try not to embarrass the crew next Fest.

Great pow riding off Granite Chief , this am was fresh untracked pow .. but
Valmorel , Wendell and I were so happy to get to ride it that we forgot to get any Vid .. later when we returned in the afternoon with Slow , it was a bit cut up but still quite fun ..

Valmorel rides this kind of stuff magnificently on his Spruce 120 , and rode first and then stopped to shoot this vid of me doing the same thing .. I am constantly amazed at how well he rides the 120 and how well it works for him. my board of choice is the 130 Sherpa , but how we both ride these boards is quite similar and it is hard to tell any difference in how the boards work , which is quite fascinating to me . ... although the 130 is certainly a power board... the 120 while a great board for beginners, is a fabulous high performance all mountain board from the deepest pow , crud and ice when piloted by an expert like Valmorel ...

Sorry , I have not shot any vid of him .. he has assumed the role of the videographer for our trip .. thanks a whole lot , Val !!

Here is vid shot by Valmorel of me dropping into Granite chief bowl at
Squaw

Dcox rode the "Condor" graphic revolts .. with the new bomber elites.. I had not seen those graphics in person ... man are they SWEET .. too bad they didn't get on the Condor , but great that the graphic is available on the Revolt and Alp ..

Here is a pic of the 4 of us having fun !

I took a break from riding my Sherpa and had a fabulous time riding my KTP with Line FF pros .. all day today ..
Here is bit of morning mogul riding on the KTPs.. , it was icy in the morning but the moguls got nice and soft later in the afternoon in the warm sunshine...
great day to end a fabulous week ... thanks to everyone who attended ... it was one fabulous , unforgettable week ...

thanks again to Valmorel for shooting all the great vid ... he is such a fabulous rider that the only regret I have is that I didn't shoot any vid of him .. but I think Slow did and hopefully that will show up when slow posts his stuff... .

Hi Jack,
Looks like you guys had a great rest of the week. Cindy and I had a blast the short time we were there. I know there is already talk about doing it again in Tahoe next year. I love the idea as the room accommodations can be had for cheap, you have the skiing, and the casinos, and it seems to be somewhat of a central location(sorry David, long ways for you). We fell in love with Heavenly and look forward to visiting it again. The cool thing is now we know our way around a bit and can be more selective about where we stay. The temps are getting up there in SoCal and our time is dwindling down, so looking forward to this next year will keep the passion going. Thanks again for making this a great time for everyone. We were blessed to have your leadership and organizational skills .

Awesome! thanks for posting the video! I always think I must look like such a tool when i come down the mountain - wish I had taken that run a little faster now!

Pink - these days it's the 105 all the way! with bomber elite bindings and deeluxe track 225s - I really seem to have found my sweet spot!

it was great getting out there with the guys again today - we had a good time at sugar bowl and I'll definitely be headed back there soon.

Gonna try to hit Kirkwood next sat or sun since it should be getting dumped on all week then clear up for the weekend!

Hey Can, I wish I had had time to shoot some video of you too. You have a great style and push those boards hard. Should have stuck around longer man, Squaw was awesome!

Dave, the truth is you ride really well with good solid style. You give a false impression with self-depricating comments!, LOL.

BTW, Carolyn and I really enjoyed riding with you and especially getting to visit a little bit.

What a wonderful week of skiboarding and meeting other forum members and their partners and friends. An awesome group of people who were a whole bunch of fun.

Kirkwood was a wet day with heavy dense snow that challenged many riders in the morning. Maria and I got to get to know Bill and Carolyn a bit better over lunch. Unfortunately, this was the only day that they were able to participate in riding, so we were the lucky ones to have had the time with them. After lunch, the Mad Scientist Dave guided us to some friendlier runs. The group had a great time trying to keep up to G, and making excursions into the trees.

If my count is right, we were 22 strong:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Kirkwood/?action=view&current=IMG_1261a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Kirkwood/IMG_1261a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Heavenly was a windy and cloudy day but it did not stop anyone from having a great time. The group had become smaller and was able to stay together for most of the day.

Maria and I traveled from South Lake Tahoe to Squaw Valley on Wednesday while Jack, Dave, and Wendell went to Northstar. I needed the rest and enjoyed the following spectacular views as we travelled the west shore of Lake Tahoe:

Beach at South Lake Tahoe:

Emerald Bay on the west shore and the only island in Lake Tahoe:

We spent our last two days at Squaw Valley. The first day was windy and prevented the gondola and tram from running so we explored the lower part of the mountain.

Wendell's friend Craig joined us:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1468a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1468a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Dropping into the steep trees:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1472a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1472a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Wendell making it look easy on his custom Lacroix:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1475a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1475a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

An appropriate description for Dave's riding skills:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1479a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1479a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I survived:
<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1481a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1481a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/?action=view&current=IMG_1483a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr206/yaroslow/2009%20Shredfest/Squaw%20Valley/IMG_1483a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

So we do not forget what poor service is:

The week of riding with other skiboarders was unbelievable. One of the best vacations Maria and I ever had. Special thanks to Shelley for getting the event going, Jack for being such a competent guide (although Dave and Wendell may disagree), and the patience and positive coaching from Jack, Dave and Wendell. You three are true gentlemen and I was honoured to be able to ride with you. Thanks again!

And a special thanks to Greco and Jeff for offering the products that allow us to enjoy skiboarding. Without your passion for skiboarding, it would not be possible.

I'm back home now in a fried out stupor from a great week. This is the most days I've ever skied in a row. It has been great to have met everyone. I'll look forward to my next opportunity to ski again with everyone.

Slow:

Thanks for posting the pictures from last week. I hated that we had to scoot so soon but I'm really glad we got to come for the time we did. It sure looks like y'all had a big time the rest of the week.

We really enjoyed meeting and visiting with you and Maria and the rest of the gang. Carolyn tells me to tell you to tell Maria she said hello, LOL. When you tally up nice snow, beautiful country, riding skiboards, getting outdoors and good friends that adds up to 100 percent.

Unfortunately , Valmorel has had all kinds of problems getting home .. he had a connecting flight cancellation and had to book a later flight to the UK at a huge surcharge .. I still have not heard about whether he finally got home ... bummer !

Matthies good to hear that your speed is increasing. BTW, we clocked a top speed of 41 mph at Sierra at Tahoe, with the great snow conditions and long runs yesterday.

How do you guys figure out how fast your going, do they make a speedo for skis?

just heard from Valmorel , he finally got home to uk at 400pm today uk time after 24hrs of .travelling with a cancelled connection , missing his flight home and having to take a different flight home ... hope the bad experience travelling out west doesn't sour him from visiting us again in the future .. we all enjoyed his company and meeting him .. truly a fabulous skiboarder and a wonderful guy !

I have the mountain map software for NA resorts but do not use it. I use the GPS "bread crumb" tracking feature that allows uploading of tracks to the snow days web site that plots the stats.

Yes finally home after a very difficult journey. My flight from Sac to SF was cancelled, which meant I had to take a much later one, causing me to miss my connecting flight back to the UK. Consequently I had to buy another ticket back at a cost of $1443.00 for economy as British Airways contended, rightly, that it was not their fault that United cancelled my flight. They bumped me up to World Traveller Plus, which was my original booking, as a goodwill gesture though, and the flight landed in the UK 30 mins early, so that part was at least comfortable. I MIGHT be able to claim the extra fare cost from my travel insurance IF United will write me a letter confirming they cancelled my original flight. Who knows.
What a great week though. Meeting and riding with everyone was a special thing for me, and I must thank everyone involved for making it happen.
But special thanks must go to Jack and Wendell for making it all so easy, arranging accomodation and transport, and inviting me, a total stranger into their homes. For helping me negotiate the hell that is a California sized lunch, and for the brilliant guiding all week long. Truly the holiday of a lifetime. I will post up some experiences as the week progresses and the jet lag wears off. Experiences like Broken Arrow and Granite Chief at Squaw. Riding all week with Slow and Maria, and Wendell deliberately catching air at Sugar Bowl after becoming a Sherpa convert . Just gimme time!

I think I crashed more this week then I have in 3 seasons of riding . despite being on my most stable and biggest skiboard... ... something about a crazy Brit in a underpowered Spitfire schooling the Yank in the high powered jet , and causing the Yank to push the envelope just a bit :)!

Yes, we regretted that we didn't get to ride with you also but did enjoy the chance we had to visit. You and Carolyn went into a discussion about the IT thing and that always loses me, LOL! I always thought IT was the cousin on the Addams Family tv show!

It was tough in the conditions and short time we had to catch up with everyone in the crew, next time we're hoping the timing will work out that we can stay awhile.
