Just wondering, what is the difference between a powder plate and a riser?

The powder plates mount to the boards and the bindings mount to the powder plates letting you mount the bindings center, or 5 cm back, or 10cm back. I may be off about it being in 5 cm increments. I'm not sure, maybe it's 2 cm increments. I never worried about the actual measurements.

so pretty much the same thing as a riser but giving you extra freedom to where on the board you want to set the bindings?

No. I guess I confused you with my wording. When I say you mount the bindings to the plates, I should have said you mount the risers to the plates with the bindings mounted to the risers.
