Let me see what my next check is, I really want to go to both but I may have to make a decision to just skip midwest...I've been skipping work a lot lately and I don't know how much income I am going to have, I'll see if I have a check coming to me this week if I do and it is enough I will pay up for both you guys and the open.
Again I don't want to drop out of this because bohemia is sick but I've been there already this year and as sick as it is, it's still a 12 hour drive. I'll let you know soon.

Wow, they're dropping like flies!
I'm definitely still coming, even if I have to drive out all by myself. I'm pretty sure Brick is still in though. We had an awesome time at Jay, and it just made me even more excited to ride at Bohemia.
What's the earliest that we can get into the cabins, by the way?

Boy with them dropping like flies I may not have enough cash to cover the freakin cabins, this is getting ridiculous! I estimated $75 to make sure we covered in case we had a few cancellations. That may not be enough, and it sucks but I may have to ask for a few more bucks from the small group that's confirmed.
I plan on leaving here by 8 am, hopefully sooner. So I'll be there early afternoon. When did you kids plan on getting there?

I think I'm still in, and it wouldn't be fair for me to bail now. If I can't make it I will still send some money to help out with lodging

Dennis, with Onlyboards out, Brick and I will be the only ones in the vehicle. I'm pretty sure we could swing by and pick you up.
Andrew, if you need extra cash let us know. I can pitch in as needed. How many are we down to now?

Dennis there is no need to pay for something you aren't going to. I only want you to pay if you are going. :)
We are down to 5 paid right now. You, Thomas, Courtney Me and Isaac. Originally we had 10 confirmed, but things happen, we understand that.

Wow, and there were well over a dozen people interested at one point. Hey, I'm sure we'll still have a good time no matter how small the group. I think Brick and I are planning on getting to the mountain Friday morning. That's why I was wondering about how early we can get into the cabins. I'm planning on doing scouting runs to see where I want to go the following two days.

Okay. Finally got my internet back. I haven't even had access for a few weeks, so sorry I've been out of touch! (Thank god for the public library though.) I won't be able to make it. Life has struck again. Picking up a second job and gotta find a place to live and pay off the credit card. It just won't work out. Do you guys want to know the saddest part? I have only been able to actually go skiboarding once this year. Omg *tear* :'( I'm really sorry guys but I hope to pick up again where I left off next season.

As sad as I am for other people to miss out, a group of 5 is perfect for riding glades.
CrazyBoy-1
02-09-2010, 08:04 AM
Yeah, that's a good point. We generally had five or six people together riding at Jay. Much more than that, and it's hard to keep track of everyone. Still, I was looking forward to hanging out with everyone in the evenings and maybe riding with different small groups during the day.

haha, I may be my own group when we are up there if I don't get in shape soon. Having a baby during the winter kills my workout plans. I may be down and out quick...I hope not!!

That would be sweet, Brian. I want to try to find all the hidden places to ride just like at Jay.
Yeah, Jay was definitely a good wake up call for me as far as physical demand. I'm still sore from this weekend, and my legs were definitely not in the same shape the second day up. I was glad to be on the shorter boards. The Condors can be a workout.

5 days left to secure your cabin spot. Once the 16th hits we cut down the cabins and you may be sleeping with the smelly boots on the floor!
Sorry guys I was really hoping to head on up to Bohemia with you all.....buuutt my work place is going through some changes currently and I need to be here consistently for the next few months. I'm definitely bummed bc they could do without me for an extended weekend but oh well. Maybe next year :/ Oh and to those that are going have a safe and fun trip.

Yup you have until midnight Monday to claim your bed! There will still probably be room after Monday, but I would really like to get 1 or two more people into the meet. That way I don't have to ask for any extra cash from people for the cabins.
GOM What's up bud, you possibly coming now Tim and Thomas are going to pick you up? Your lift is already paid for...you only need $50!!!

You can count me in for being there but I won't need a place to sleep nor tix to get up the hill. If (max 2 people) want to come up a day early and ride Ripley on Friday you can stay in my dorm, It'll be a tight sleeping arrangement but we have a pretty good Terrain Park
adeehr
02-15-2010, 11:14 AM
Sounds great! I'm not sure how we are going to get ahold of you as there is probably no cell reception up there, if there is it's probably spotty. Send me a PM with your cell number otherwise look for us in Cabins 1 and 2. We should have those two. I have all 4 in my name right now, but will give two back tomorrow, so I'm assuming they'll have us keep 1 and 2.
adeehr
02-15-2010, 11:57 AM
Cabins 3 and 4 have been canceled. I had a call from Bohemia to me actually verifying I still needed all 4 as it's Martigras weekend, and they have had tons of requests for them. So I gave two cabins back, so I'm sure there will be plenty of partiers there that weekend.
We still have cabins 1 and 2 for the weekend and if GOM comes we will still have 2 beds available to anyone who wants them.
COME AND GET IT!! :)

Can we designate one cabin as alcohol-free?
adeehr
02-15-2010, 12:36 PM
You bet. Last year at jay Robert Matt and I had a case that we maybe had a few beers out of. I have no problem not drinking at all that weekend. I don't even know how much we'll feel like partying after a day out in the powder. But for sure one cabin can been alcohol free.
ElkCloner
02-15-2010, 12:52 PM

Since it's just the 5 of us as of now lets just make it an alcohol free weekend. I don't think anyones going to have a problem with that. Plus we can probably go to the communal cabin and watch drunks if we want. :)

I may be willing to get in on this as it would be great to catch up with some of you that I haven't spoken with in a long time.
Btw, this is Jon Ostroushko. Co-Founder of Skiboard Magazine.

This definitely looks very intriguing. Coming from Minneapolis though is quite a trek. I need to talk to some people first to see if I can even go. Money is tight these days, especially when looking for a new car.
Obliquity is my brother so chances are if I went it would probably be with him, not sure if there is even room with you Courtney. Not that I'm inviting myself in your car, just saying it would be nice to ride along with my brother.

I'm sure we could fit you. I can clean everything out of my trunk and our gear should all fit. That's the beauty of skiboards on road trips.
The lodging cost is in the 2nd post. Ticket prices are $50 a day I believe. Mtbohemia.com can confirm that.

Oh sweet, how'd that work out? Since we are staying at the hill I'm sure we could do the same, granted there isn't 4 feet of fresh powder to walk through.... then again....:D

What is everyone bringing for gear? I have 120 110 105 & 103's I'm going to bring. I doubt the Rockets will get any use there, but I'm going to bring them anyway, you just never know. I'm also bringing the Pro Primes and Bomber II's, Line FF Pro and I'm going to bring those messed up bindings for Tim because I know he wanted to check them out.
As far as food, I've got Friday night covered, I probably will get there sometime between 1 and 3 in the afternoon, depending on if I have to drop my daughter off at school that morning. I don't know if we want to have everyone bring snacks, as I know Courtney has some stuff she's bringing. I looked and there is a small grocery store about 15 minutes away in case we don't have enough food.
Also on my list are my walkies and my XM radio.

I'll be riding my KTPs and bringing my boyfriends KTPs as back up. I have a helmet cam on the way.. hopefully. They keep switching up the shipping info and bumping the dates back to the 5th, the day I'm leaving, which will be too late. I'm still hoping for the best though.
I'm thinking I'll hit up Sam's Club tomorrow and pick up a big bag of Chex Mix along with some other snacks and maybe some granola bars. Also have a case of Gatorade I'll be bringing and some bottled water.
I'm hoping our contact with the drunks will be minimal. It's good to hear the after party is away from the resort. Hopefully that will leave us more room in the common area if we choose to hang out there.
Stoked!

********* BOHEMIA TREASURE MAP *********
A1/A2 - A1) Off the lift by the base you go around the drop off of the other lift to get to the Haunted Valley Section of the Map. Altho it looks like individual cleared Glades its basically an entire nice wide section where the little stuff is cleared out. Medium thickness of trees, and if you head hard left its one "trail name" a little less left is another the middle is a third and so on. so basically wherever you enter the woods its a different '"trail". All these woods filter and end up on a actual cleared trail that will bring you back round to the other side of the mountain at point A2. The trail the woods filter to is pretty flat so some pushing is likely going on.
B) Off the main lift left and between one of the few blue trails on the right "Phoenix" I believe is the name and the back to the left are some good fairly wide open woods with a bunch of smaller drops, cliffs, and natural features.
C) Just under and right of the Main lift are some nice dense woods that Dennis and i found a really nice broken tree that we used as a kicker/ up-rail thingy. Probably rose almost 5 feet at the tall end. A few other small drops here. Pretty steep sections as well.
D) Off main lift right hand u-turn. follow trail maybe 100m and then duck into the woodsas soon as they start to clear out a little. We actually had to duck under a branch and up a hill so we had to carry speed and it was a tight fit. But worth it. There was a phenominal 12-15ft drop (approx at the hash mark) after about 50m. just enough room to get some speed and drop it. landing a bit tight with trees so make sure you step to the edge and plan out your line before dropping. After the big rock it is fairly smooth and steep. and medium thickness with the trees.
E) X Doesn't mean don't go there just means they weren't open when we went so i have no idea. If you ride these i Guess you can either shuffle on a flat 'trail' thing to the second lift or you can drop down to the road and the roving Bohemia buss will pick you up and take you back to the lift. it just makes laps up and down that road all day,
F) ALL these trails were awesome. Just be careful. No grooming so there are quite a few things that you wont normally come across at your regular resorts. But they were all fairly steep in places and you can pop in and out of the woods along most of them. Just be careful there are a couple of ravines you don't want to get stuck down in. Also there wasn't as much snow when we went as now but some of the drainage ditches going perpendicular to the trail were pretty severe ( this actually goes for all cl;eared out trails) and if your not careful, or if you want them to they will throw you 10-15 feet. When we went you could hit these and get air and land in the snow however you wanted and not feel it. Just scope it out before hand.
The outer limits were also not open when we went so no recon there either.
You will approach the resort from the far left of the page. There are about 5 miles or so of road before the resort that is a gravel road. it was plowed nicely when we went but if there is a lot of fresh snow could be trouble. The gas station/restaurant/grocery store i mentioned is off of one of the forks in the road just past the resort at the bottom of the page, the first one i think, follow that road for a little while and its right at the end on the water.
Also FILL UP ALL THE WAY your gas tanks in Houghton on the way up please i was driving around with my has light on for longer hen i care to do looking for gas.
Thats about all i got any questions lemme know. And to reiterate i am still very saddened that i cannot make it. I wish i could come with.

Being the local native I can give you all the info you would ever want about the town of little ole Houghton.
If you need to pick up and last minute gear or food there is a walmart here.
If you're looking for food or pop I would suggest going to Econo-food which is right across the road from walmart, they are usually always cheaper.
As for outdoor gear Down Wind Sports is about the only place you're going to get good service, you could go to Mount Ripley but they aren't that great.
Lake La Belle Lodge is the Gas Station/Burger Bar 5 min. from Bohemia, I know the owner and he's a really nice guy, burgers and fries are about $6-$8
The only big name bank you'll find up here is a Wells Fargo, other than that ATM's are few and far between, stock up when you get to Houghton and feel free to swing by the dorms. I'll probably be around.

I'd also like to add a place that Brian and I found whilst driving around after closing one night.
WARNING EXPERTS ONLY
I mean this in the most serious of ways, normally I would tell anybody to try anything, this not so much.
When the resort closes, and if you want to hike, get in your car and continue in the direction you were going on the main road before you entered the parking lot. Follow the road and look off to the left side, the side that the resort is on, at some point you will see a pillow line that is three somewhere between 3 and 7 continuous drops. You will have to do some hiking but it seemed like it was totally worth it. The drops looked to be about 5 - 10 feet each. You will need some lights when it gets darker, but that is obvious and seems to be covered by you guys. If anyone tries it or even finds it go ahead and film it...I'll do it next year when I go up again.

Wow, I have a lot of thread to catch up on.
First, Nolhay, I'll bring a spare set of Bombers for you, so no worries there.
Second, Brian, you're awesome for taking the time to prep the treasure map for us.
Third, I'll be bringing snacks and drinks, but I'm also up for hitting the burger place Saturday for supper.
Fourth, I'll be bringing my Condors and my 96 Lines to ride just like at Jay, and I'll probably throw my EMP's in as well. I'm hoping the conditions will be Condor worthy, but if not I'll switch to the Lines for some fun.
Fifth, GoM, if we can find those drops, I'll hit them, and there will be video.
Finally, I'm glad you're thinking of the bindings, Andrew. I was planning on sending you a reminder on Thursday just in case.
Just three days to go...

I just got the worse news of the year. On my way down to Lansing for a conference that was supposed to give me an early spring break my engine, out of no where, blew. The bearings are shot and I'm looking at having to drop a new engine in it which won't happen before Saturday. Currently I have no way of getting to Lac La Belle unless I get a ride up with somone. Furthermore this means that I either get a ride back or I stay at Bohemia. I'm now looking at even less money than I did before, $120 for a tow back, $2000 for an engine, etc...My other option is to just not go. The only thing I have to offer is free All-you-can-eat dinner/lunch/breakfast to the group that picks me up if that be the case.
Anyone have any ideas?

I was driving to work today, and about half way my car starts having issues. It's getting worse fast, and I have a misfire on multiple cylinders.
I'm going to make the 200 mile drive back to my parents house tonight to swap out cars (hopefully my car can hold out and make it). Looks like we'll be rollin in the '94 camry station wagon. Baller! At least we'll have more room, and won't break down. It won't be as comfortable, and I think it has the worst speakers in the history of cars, but we'll make it.

Courtney and I were talking about that while we were there. The problem is all the other events that are around this time of year. We are trying to get it between other events and have enough time for people to travel out this way. We were talking like the 3rd week of Feb next year, but we'll have to talk about it more and see what we can come up with. Who knows, maybe 3rd week of January would be best, no other events prior or for at least 2 weeks after....

I like your criteria/strategy Andrew and Courtney.
(I am hoping it works out as a warm up to Shredfest next year. I need to do whatever is possible to be in condition to keep Jack in sight at Shredfest. He is the human version of the energizer bunny!:))

Oh yeah, on our way back to Minneapolis, we saw 6 elk. They made all the deer we saw after that seem so tiny.
As for next year, we're definitely open to suggestions as far as timing goes. Maybe we could even stretch it into a 3 day trip with riding Friday - Sunday.. but riding this terrain is a really good work out. I was proud of myself for making it through 2 whole days of riding

I would say mid-late jan next year, just because I will be traveling more next year than I did this year and think I'm going to need more of a break between trips than I would have had on this schedule. Plus, mid jan would be fine temp wise, sure maybe a bit cold but nothing we can't get used to.

I made it riding 2 days....sure it was only 2 runs on the second day....but I made it! Yea that was a hella workout. I know what I need to do for next year to get myself ready and in better shape. For those that didn't make it but may next year, heed my warning. Your thighs will burn!! Especially if you are trying to keep up with youngins 10 years younger then you!

I know when Brian and I were up there we would do 4 or 5 runs and force a break...did that for 2 days, it makes the riding much more enjoyable in my opinion.

We did do that. We took quiet a few breaks for a drink and a snack. We even talked about how that helped move the day along and kept everyone's energy up. I just didn't have enough energy for a second day!! :D

I'm in for a mid-January meet. The weekend of the 15th and 16th would be great.

30-27=10? Man, they sure taught some odd math way back when you were in school. ;-)
I'm torn on the date issue. I love spring conditions, and if there had been a bit more coverage at Bohemia, I would have called it perfect. Having said that, I realize that cold weather preserves the snow better, and I'm sure that Bohemia would be amazing with even a foot of powder to ride in. Those cliff drops would be sweet in those conditions.
Either way, I'm in for next season. And this time, I'll drop that bigger cliff we looked at.

The spring conditions weren't so bad. The only down side was the ice over in the morning, and the inconsistencies between soft snow and ice depending on where the sun was. Sunday was a little too soft in a lot of the areas we were in though. It was like cement eating up your boards in some spots. I agree that more coverage would be good.
I also wouldn't mind going when it's a bit colder to eat up the powder. Decisions, decisions. In the end it'll all come down to what you guys want, and when you want it :)

its not really a bad time pick, we should have had a ton more snow and it should have still been snowing, it's just been a weird month, whens the last time it snowed like that in washington?
