Is it going to be that ridiculously low price of $80 again?
bec2745
07-14-2009, 12:04 AM
well read yo emails...
thats what he was talking about. they covered about 35% of the costs last year so they are lookng to see where they can do to keep it at or around 'the rediculously low price of $80'
ElkCloner
07-14-2009, 06:45 AM
So if they don't, the price could go up to $100-$120?
That's not terrible.
It costs that much to ski two days at my local hills
bec2745
07-14-2009, 11:37 PM
i suppose so. im not entirely sure how all the costs break down exactly but that price range is still good i agree especially since thats what we paid for lodging alone at jay jam
go put in your input on there forum so we can get the best deal possible. i know he said he checks that alot more often than here

"We're planning for next year!
Posted by Admin - Friday 17 July 2009 - 07:54:07
It's been quiet around here, but things are starting to pick up. We're in the planning stages for the 2010 US Open. Recently an email was sent out to all of our members, but just in case you're not a member here's the story. We're negotiating for late February or early March. I've been in touch with Ragged Mountain already. I'll be going out to spend some time with our friends there very soon.
Our format will change a bit this year, we're trying for 4 separate competitions:
Skiboard Cross, Fakie Parallel Slalom, Slopestyle, and a Rail Jam. We'll get more details out later.
We're planning for division placement. The "Pros", the "Ams" (amateur) and the "Kids" (anyone under 14), for each competition. It's a better chance for those of you who are not supported by a label to place in the event.
Of course this year Skiboard Planet will have a green team just as we did last year.
We'll be getting back soon with more details....so get ready, it's really just right around the corner!" -- Skiboardplanet.com
Both are listed my friend. But if your going to do those two you might as well just do all 4.

I guess so then, good call. Fakie slalom is going to actually take some hard work for me to be able to do but I will try it...woo, this is shaping up to be an amazing looking trip.
Is there some way I could car pool with you again?

Hey Hershel, is there any way for non-competing skiboarders to get in on the lodging deal? I'd love to get my whole family up for the event (I just got them on skiboards last year), but my dad would be the only one besides myself who could actually compete. My mom and sisters are ok to get down a slope and observe, but they're not at a level to compete in any of the events. Just curious.

I won't know how many beds are open, where we stay is a big bunk house. But I know there is an extra room upstairs. Let me contact the resort and see about guests. We may be able to get them group rate ski passes as well... let me check into it...

Ok, thanks. I remembered that last year half of the bunkhouse was competitors and half was "family," so I wanted to see what things would be like this year.
Actually, last year was a noisy room and a quite room...not just family. There were youth competing who needed to be in bed by a certain time. And for us older folks it was a more quite space to try to sleep. We also kept the SkiboardPlanet event workers in that room and also housed our guests from World Skiboard.
I did talk to the resort. They said sure, bring them along, but it's all bunkhouse oriented lodging. We won't have access to any other rooms on any other floors until our floor is full. If they are with our group we can get group rate for lift for them.

Awesome, I'll pass that on, and let them decide if they want to join. If there will be a "quiet" room again this year, I think they'll be interested.
Thanks for looking into that for me.

in his email he said that the registration could not be broken up. they book the even as a whole and get an inclusive rate for everything that wre need for the weekend. so i would say that it is likely that you will have to end up paying the full 110 but it wouldnt hurt to send hershel an email and see. i would also suggest staying in the bunkhouse for the good times and comrodery

Well, it looks like I may not make it up after all. I have a wedding on that Friday that's in the evening, so I'd have to drive pretty much overnight to get up there. I'm willing to do that, but I may also have something else in the works. Much as I was looking forward to doing skiboard cross again, I don't really want to wear myself too thin. I'm already going to Jay and Bohemia, so I may just have to be content with that.

Ok Brick, I'll keep you posted. If I know I'll have someone to split gas with, that would definitely make things easier.
Jpark, fakie just means going down backwards. Last year we did timed runs through a gated course. This year it looks like it will be one on one. A chinese downhill is basically a free-for-all. Everyone starts at the top, you get one push-off, and then you just bomb your way down the hill. The first one to the bottom wins.

Our Fakie is a competition gated Parallel Slalom this year. Last year the resort wouldn't allow us to do a straight fakie downhill...insurance reasons. But, after we did a single gated fakie they agreed to let us do a parallel heat course slalom style.
Fakie Gated Parallel Slalom - you get to compete against each other. We'll draw straws...
Oh, and chinese downhill is forward...fakie downhill is backwards...

It will take 8 hrs if I drive. and about 500 miles. I guess driving is cheaper but it's too long of a drive.
so if anyone's planning on driving from MD, PA, NJ, or NY. I might be able to drive upto where you are and join you there??
if we split gases it'll save lots of money i think =)

Just so that everyone knows, Sonia (Romania) is returning, Sergey, Nkita, and Mikhail (from Russia) are coming, I heard from Martins Miculus, he said that he and Tenis Dimants (both from Latvia) are coming and our great friends Jason and Serge (Canada) will be back.
So our US Open this year is expanding to be truly international...it gives us a great outlook toward the future.

go to www.skiboardplanet.com. there is some info there, but I do think Hershel posted more last year describing the event.
It's basically a couple of good days of riding and hanging out, with a few hours each day set aside for friendly competitions. If you sign up to compete, you can compete in any events you like, and compete as hard or as easy as you want.
The slopestyle competition was also judged separately for amateur and pro.
hope to see you there!

If you can have a spot in the quiet room for me, that would be awesome. I'm not sure exactly when I'll be getting in, but if there's a spot ready for me near a door, I can just slip in and crash for a couple hours.

Good, because I can't get a straight answer from my boss on whether or not I can be off that weekend.
So...I think I'd much rather film the comp than participate, yes?

No, you must at least participate in the skiboard cross. That is the only stipulation.

There are PRO/AM/YOUTH divisions in
Slopestyle
Cross

So, the pros ride against the pros, ams against the ams, and youth against the youth!!

I want to say a big thank you to all the am's and pro's that cheered on, encouraged, helped, guided, and watched out for my little riders Tanner and Salihah. You helped make their weekend extra special.
For those of you that don't already know Salihah broke her ankle when she fell trying to get back to the fakie course after her race. She has traded in her skiboards for a pair of crutches and a nice blue cast. Tanner ended up with head trauma and a concussion from the fall he took at the end of the fakie slalom course. A CT scan was taken of his brain and was normal (thank god) but the doc says it will take some time for him to get back to his usual self. He's had a headache, dizziness, and numb fingers since yesterday. They both missed school today for obvious reasons but are totally stoked about wearing their US Skiboard Open t-shirts and showing off their medals and signed posters to all their friends when they go back. Despite their injuries they had tons of fun.
A special thank you goes to Duncan for trying to help them both after each of their falls.

I'd like to post a special thanks to Greco for two years of support with SkiboardPlanet.com and the competitions that we've been able to put together. Without Greco there would be none of this. His insight into skiboarding, the great products that he makes, this community that he supports, and the hard work that goes into keeping this industry alive is truly commendable.
This year Greco made a visit out to the mountain and dropped off some swag that was rafffled out at the event. That 15 minute we spent with each other meant alot!! From SkiboardPlanet.com, it was fantastic to finally meet you in person!!
Revel8 and SBOL are the reasons why our sport is still here, SkiboardPlanet.com will continue to support and engage in competitions in the future to support these two great companies (and our fearless leader!).
While making acknowledgements I always forget somone, next year we already have a personal event planner who will be there to make sure I get it right...
Normand Duquette - the silent partner without whose technical skills SkiboardPlanet.com would not exist, his patience and assistance is remarkable (considering who he has to deal with....me...). Normand never gets enough of a fuss so I'm making a big one!! His contributions to the event surpass everyones and I can't personally thank him enough for his time, money, and assistance.
Michelle Kavanaugh (Tanner and Salihah's Mom), thanks so much for assisting with all of the comps working cameras and marshalling the slopes.
Therese Colman - Your efforts helping feed the riders was outstanding and we couldn't have done it without you.
Connie Jussaume - Assisting Therese and watching over all of us all weekend is truly appreciated.
Wendy McNaughton - I couldn't run SkiboarderX without you!! Thanks for helping the riders with every little thing!!!
Patrick McNaughton - Our slopeside photographer, I CAN"T WAIT to see the pics! Thank you for your time and efforts!!
Art Jennings - Dude you got more in you than anyone can see, your efforts on the slopes in judging, marshalling, and just gettinng around...much respect man and I really appreciate your being there!!
Sergey Agapov - All the way from RUSSIA!! Thanks for helping with the judging on slopestyle and send me some of that wonderful clear liquid!!
Sonja Dragan - Skiboarding's Princess!! Thanks for helping with slopestyle and the judging process, much love sweetie!!
Jason Roussel - I can't say enough about what you put into the event. Juding slopestyle (dropping from pro to am to make sure judging is proper), supporting Enurshia at the event and handing out t-shirts in the raffle, bringing all of the instruments for a live jam session, you ROCK dude, I owe you!!
Dave Lynam - Bud, once again you step up to help your friend, the kids were so stoked that you assisted with the juding at the youth slopestyle comp, they all love you so much!!
And to the judges table - what a great time that was!!!
Ian Cap - Thanks for the swag from Enurshia!! It goes a long way!!
Dakota Harding - Thanks for stepping in to watch finish for us on X and FPS. Hope your wrist heals soon!
Aron Duquette and Nicole Healy - our errand runners - the couple that worked their tales off for us all weekend. They're boyfriend and girlfriend, and they actually work well together!!
Ragged Mountain - Thanks again for being home to our event!
Pepsi/Mt Dew/ROCKSTAR - There's still a lot of guys bouncing off the walls...!! Your product donation and swag was greatly appreciated and we enjoy your being one of our sponsors!
And lastly - to ALL of the the riders...you're amazing...WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE THE PRIDE I HAVE IN ALL OF YOU!!! Your friendships with each other, how close you all are, your dedication to the sport, and the smiles I can't even begin to count, I can't wait for next year, and guess what...THERE'S DEFINITELY A NEXT YEAR!!!...we're already working on it!

Although you weren't there, had it not been for you pushing me most of the season and especially getting me to sign up for the open, I would have not made it this far in riding. And a huge thanks to Art Jennings. Dude, you're like a brother to me. Had it not been for you I wouldn't even be skiboarding. I owe it all to you. Tragedy stole one year of us riding together, but next year will be the start of FDC all over again. Cheers to the both of you and all I have to owe you. Much love and gratitude.

<choked up>
Thanks Hershel. I know how difficult it is to put on an event of this magnitude, you have my full respect and gratitude. Keep up the great work!

Did anyone take any photos of Tanner and Salihah? Because I was taking video for SkiboardPlanet.com during all the events I was unable to take any photos of my kids. If anyone has any they'd like to share with me I'd really appreciate it. They can be sent to mom2kazkid@yahoo.com or mydogsled@myfairpoint.net.
Thanks.

Thanks Wendy. The kids are doing much better. Salihah has already ditched the crutches and she's enjoying all the extra attention. Tanner is recovering, but more slowly. He's doing better but is still getting headaches and dizziness. He's tired alot (so not like him) but his ability to focus has improved each day.
Thanks to everyone who has sent well wishes to the kids.

Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post up soon. Against all odds, my camera was found up at Ragged and turned in at the lodge. I had sent an e-mail in a couple days ago, but I didn't expect to hear anything back, figuring that the chances of someone finding the camera and then turning it in were rather slim. Imagine my surprise when a Ragged Mtn employee e-mailed me back saying they had the camera. I don't know what condition it's in, but the memory card should still be good, and I have pics from the big air comp on it.

Yep unfortunately we have to do the edits on the weekend because we have jobs to work during the week. But, last year we started posting the first videos up about 4-6 weeks after.
We already have the kids edit done we just need to render it to youtube. The hard part starts now...everyone please be patient with us, lol...
