Paul, unless these coupons are different from the ones we had last year, they can't be used to purchase two tickets for two different days. We had that idea last year, but both tickets must be for the same day, so we ended up pairing up. One guy buys the first day, and the other guy buys on the second day. Each one gets a free day of riding.

Ahhh.. gotcha.

I've come to the decision that I'd prefer to drive during the day on Friday. Leaving between 8 & 9 am, and arriving around 7pm at the farmhouse.

So Brick, Sam, and Jeaho will have to leave MD sometime around 6 or 7am Friday morning. Is that cool? And pick us up 8 or 9ish. Then coordinate to meet Paul in NY at about 11 to noon.

Thanks, James

Yup, sounds good.

Brick and Sam - share

Jeaho and Paul - share

ok then.
Paul, do you want just one of us buy two from ebay and pay another person when we meet up? just to save the shipping?
let me know what you wanna do.

Mapquest, Google Maps, etc... WILL get you lost. Guaranteed. The street names on the signs don't match the maps....

Now for James and everyone else:

How many stops along the way are we planning? If I fill the Excursion when I leave Friday morning, we will only have to stop once (if even that) for gas. I plan on packing enough to not have to eat out on the way up, so one stop (barring emergencies) is all I will need.

I drove solo from Lancaster, PA to Bradenton, FL straight through and only stopped twice because of gas. One gas/bathroom/stretch stop on the way to Jay is fine with me.

Well, we need to stop around noon to pick up Paul just over the NJ / NY line.

It's another 6 to 7 hours from there, I think we'll be good to complete that.

As far as food, I am planning on packing snacks for myself, for the whole weekend. (spend as little money on food as possible) But if anyone wants to stop we can just get whats convienent.

It looks like the rest of us should jump in on this idea as well. Ian just PM'ed me and said that he was not able to find any BOGO's through his contacts.

If JPark and Paul each have theirs then we will need 8 more.

Are the rest of us in agreeance to buy 8 more BOGO's online for a small fee?

I can get them ordered ASAP.

Yeah, no luck on the BOGO's. They typically have them at local places, but nobody has seen them around.

And just a note on conveniences. Please be aware that this area (Upstate NY And VT) can be very desolate. I recommend having any food purchased long before you reach VT and have a full tank of gas as often as you can. Sure, it is the east coast, but it can be barren.

There's a semi-decent grocery store near the house were staying at. I loaded up last year cause I didn't want customs hassles with meat and fruit.

There's a couple of decent restaurants around, and the Country store near Jay makes a really good breakfast and sandwiches.

wow are you making kimbap??? if you are brining lots of kimbap so i can have some... then i can go get instant noodles and also bring the hot-pot. since it looks like we need to bring our own pots.

btw how much of kimbob can you bring? don't they go bad after a day?

i can bring hot-pots, chopsticks, and noodles... perhaps... 6 (a box) or dozen (two boxes) just in case if someone else wants to try?

how does that sound??

i need to go grocery shopping =P

JPark, there is this awesome KimBap place near my house. They have a lot of different ones like bulgogi, kimchee, maewoon chamchee, ojinguh, etc etc. I was going to pick up a few rolls of each. Since it's going to be cold, I was hoping it should be okay for at least the first day/night. Then we'll have to switch to Ramen. I'm thinking Shin cups for convenience.

Let me know what type of KimBap that you like and I'll pick some up for you.

I don't mind what kind. I just need to go 5-6 meals with kimbap and noodles (if we all go out for dinner one night) I am leaving very early on friday so i will be waiting for the kimbop when we meet you on the way =P
oh and if kimbap costs lot more than noodles, let me know. i will pay you.

now i think about it, even if they get cold, it's all good i think. they don't go bad at least and it makes perfect combination with hot noodle!!

I will go get a box of shin cup and another box of different kind just in case.
i think this is more than enough. if we don' t finish them, i can always bring them back and eat at home =)
i believe they cost less than $10 per box.

so yeah i guess I am all set for Food, lodging, ride, and lift tickets.
anything else i am missing?

i just gotta have to remember all this. =P

The Kimbap is about 5 dollars per roll so let me know how many you guys want. There's a lot of different types, but the most popular are beef, spicy tuna, kimchee (pickled cabbage), mushroom, calamari, and sausage. If you aren't too adventurous, I suggest the beef. Each roll is very filling as one meal or two snacks.

Hey man,

I'm not sure if we have much more room left. We have 6 pp as of right now.

It is an Excursion that we are planning on traveling in, but I'm not sure if we can fit 7, and all the gear, and still be comfortable for the remaining 7 hours.

I will have to pose this question to Brick. BRICK, do you think this'll work?

The other thing is, we are stopping in Sloatsburg / Suffern area to pick up Paul.

It would be best if you we're able to meet us at the exact time and place as Paul to simplify travel arrangements.

Lastly, are you staying at the farmhouse with us all. If so, you may as well chip in the $50 to show your commitment. And also, do you have lift tickets?

Just wondering where your at with this?

We can certainly try.

I'm bringing basically nothing, snow gear, skis, camera, and not a whole lot of food. Going to wear pretty much the same clothing for the weekend (no one cares if we smell bad)

I suggest you remove the bindings from your boards (put the bindings in a backpack with your clothing) that way the boards will sit flat.

Dave Bloom
02-01-2010, 06:56 AM
I live 35 minutes from Suffern and can leave my car there at my grandparents house. All I'm bringing is two sets of boards (1 as a backup), my snow gear, small amount of clothes, protein bars and stuff so it's light carrying, and a bottle of jack. I travel with just the essentials.

I can make it whatever work. What time did you guys plan on hitting the Suffern area?

As far as lift tickets, I have a bogo and will pick the tickets up there. I grabbed a $5 one off ebay because I couldn't find any this weekend in gas stations and such when I was up at Stratton.

viper99jk

I'm in Long Island, NY so going up to Rochester is probably not going to be the greatest idea.

If there are any service areas on 87N that I can park my car at, that would be awesome. It looks like the closest one would be the Sloatsburg Service Area between exit 15A and exit 16. If you can tell me what time to be there by, I will see you guys there.

Here's were we are meeting you Paul!

Dose this meet your approval?

We'll find you in the parking spots marked in the Yellow "X" just beside the Friendlys. Cool?

Fourdown, You can meet us here as well. We'll all have to pack lite in order to fit all the gear and still travel comfortably.

I'm hoping a few of us (if not all) will go out for dinner on Sat night. I found the place we went last year. It's about 5-10min from the house. I'd be up for cooking something on Friday night, but ya I don't think it'll be a great kitchen for that. For the rest of my meals / snacks I'll just take it as it comes. Paul - I'll take one Spicy Tuna and one Calamari. I'm planning to have them as my dinner Friday night.

Harry - Foodwise, I'm planning on quick stuff on the slopes during the day, and I'm up for the resraurant Sat night.

Paul & Harry - Unless you're definitely planning on riding the snowboards, I wouldn't bother bringing them. If you're hitting glades, skiboards are more maneuverable, and you'll be able to keep up with the rest of us better.

No alcohol? Not even beer? I can't imagine passing time during the night without a beer with my dinner.

he has no problem with a few drinks at the restaurant. just didn't want partying going on at the house with some of the younger crowd there.

I'd love to do something though. A little apres ski at the mountain is fine with me. It's most likely expensive, but could be fun.

oh yeah, i don't think i'll bring the board. probably the only time i'll ride it this year is bringing my nephew (who's learning to ride) to the very small local mountain. it's skiboards the rest of the year.

this will also be my first time on my brand new KTPs and Receptors! can't WAIT!

Like Harry said, if you want to drink at a restaurant or at the lodge, that's your choice. There will be several guys at the house who are underage, and we want to have a clean environment for them. We're only there for two nights and days, so hopefully people don't suffer from alcohol withdraw, lol. Honestly though, after the first day last year, I just wanted a hot shower, some food, and to get some rest. I don't travel 10+ hours to drink. I'm going to skiboard.

I understand what you are saying, but I personally have trouble sleeping when I'm not in my own bed. Drinking a beer or two before sleeping helps me relax and fall asleep. I'm not talking about kegs and cases of beer that I'm going to be handing out to minors, but a few for my own personal use. As an adult, I think I should be allowed this option, but if the general consensus is that beer is banned from the house, then I'll oblige.

CrazyBoy-1
02-01-2010, 06:53 PM
Thanks Paul, I appreciate your understanding, and I'm sure the parents of the younger guys would too. For what it's worth, the same situation applied last year at the farmhouse. I know that some beer made its way into the house, but I chalked that up to lack of knowledge. Also, I'd be happy to volunteer as a designated driver for those wishing to engage in some apré skiboard activities. As long as it doesn't go too late that is.

So, just to get it all set, I am meeting you guys at the Friendly's in Suffern at 12pm, correct? Who am I riding with? I only know all of you by your tags on here. And who is staying at the house and who will be in the hotel? I wasn't sure with the whole situation if I was staying with Mark, Kirk, etc... or you guys? Either way is fine. Just toss out the run down of the schedule with the ride one more time.

Three things;

first - I will post the latest roster tomorrow morning, when I get to work! That's when I do my best foruming !!

second - Glad to hear fourdown got his schedule adjusted, then my most recent post about traveling arrangements from this morning stands. fourdown, I'm cool with meeting at your grandparents, just get me the addy.

Paul, I'm glad your willing to leave the snowboard home, Its gonna be a tight fit in the Excursion anyway.

third and most important - this topic of alcohol. I know its a touchy subject. And I REALLY appreciate everyone being willing to obliged with my request.

Tim, thanks for backing me up! And also your offer to DD for some of the guys. Much Thanks.

I know you who are adults, have the right to drink, and I'm not against that.

Please understand my position, I'm putting myself out there (being responsible for some of our younger crowd) and wish to provide a clean environment for them. They're not "little kids" by any means. But impressionable, Yes. I prefer those types of environments to be introduced or restricted by the parental figures.

Thanks a lot guys for hearing me out.

you can post the addy.

I'll check it out.

As far as where your staying, You need to decide, I'll put up the names tomorrow, but if your staying in the farmhouse, you need to chip in the $50.

If not, then you need to arrange transport from one of the guys at the hotel to pick you up from the farmhouse sometime Friday evening.

Just let me know what your doing. I'm not sure what beds will be available.

right know I got 11 pp locked in and paid. GOM is the only one who has not paid yet, so its between you two. I guess who ever PayPal's me the 50 first gets claim to a bed, the other will have to figure it out. ( couch, floor or any other bed that's not being used.

Here's my two cents on lifts. Tram is great, but you will get a lot of mileage out of the Green Mountain Flyer. Runs fast and gets you close to the top.

Here’s another five cents…

When taking the Tram, make sure to hit Green Beret (if open) and Valhalla. Of course, the chutes are up there too, but Vallhalla is better.

Off Green MTN Flyer (or as it is nicknamed "The Freezer." You'll see why when you come over the crest of the hill.) make sure to find JFK (groomer) and the woods around it, Beaver Pond, and Beyond Beaver Pond. Keep an eye out for people ducking into woods and/or ski tracks off the groomers. Even if you have to peel back a branch to scootch in, it is worth poking around for stashes.

Off the Quad chair you want to hit Can-Am for steep and fast as well as the woods on either side. Vertigo and Deliverance. Deliverance is the area where the rock jump is and dumps out by the bottom of Can-Am, which is the start of the park. Can-Am is another scenic spot where a large number of riders would make a real visual impact cresting over the hill. Would look great from the chair lift too.

Off the Jet Triple Chair (best AM or late afternoon), make sure to hit the woods all the way at the edge of the boundary. But be warned, the normal mindset of “hey, there’s tracks already here so I can follow them because someone else already tracked it” does not apply here. Yes, you will be able to ride all the way down, but it you follow other people’s tracks and go way out of bounds, you will be on the highway and walking back to the ski area. And it is not close. And I would love to see some footage of people bombing down the Jet from the chair lift.

The tram can be a long wait, but it's worth it to ride up at least once. I think going up all together and then getting some video of the whole group heading down would be awesome. Helmet cams will be good for that situation.

Definitely need to hit the rock again. Hopefully I can get the guts to go off of it properly this year. Also, we need to make the run all the way over by the boundary on the right side. There was some excellent riding there last year. Most people don't want to hike, so it's a good spot to find untracked areas.

Skyskater, I'd suggest the house, but I think we'll already be pretty packed. I'm already going to be on the floor, and the rooms don't look too big.

I was hoping for someone, if at all possible bring an sort of loaner boards. One of my two friends is gonna snowboard, but I want to intro & hook him on to our sport.

So possibly maybe if someone can, & is willing, please do bring an extra pair.

If anyone needs to split a buy one get one free coupon with 1 of my friends, that would be great, for both.

Either way...it's gonna be a perfect weekend.

Got home less than an hour ago. This Jay Jam was just as much fun as, if not more than last year. Saturday was beautiful, as you can see from Mark's videos. Sunday was more harsh weather-wise, but in a way the riding was better. The group I was with had some nice runs down through untouched powder in glades too tight for skiers and snowboarders.

From what I can tell, everyone had a good time. I'm sure many good stories will be told in the next few days.

The real question now is, did Brian and Dennis manage to stay out of Canada this year?

What a weekend this was. I had a great time in general because of the people that were there. As far as riding, I think I was in a bit over my head in the glades. I had to ride groomers by myself most of the trip because I just wasn't comfortable doing glades yet so the riding got pretty boring. Sunday's weather was terrible for groomers. Everything was a solid sheet of ice so I didn't get much riding in. I was hoping that this trip was going to help me love skiboarding as much as everyone else on the forum, but I think it may have pushed me the other way a bit. I really hope you continue riding. I think you need to really try to make the US Open at Ragged. It's a great mountain with terrain that you can ride all day long. Most of us will probably be on runs that you'd love and won't make you nervous. It's not as intimidating as Jay at all. Very sorry we weren't able to ride with you more. It was definitely hard to meet up once we split at the glades each time. The hill was too big for that.

Ya like I mentioned on Sat night, for your first time in Glades you had it pretty tough being at Jay. Hope you don't leave us! ...but PM me if you sell your Spruce setup :D

I actually tried it again on Sunday on Harry's EMPs down one of the chutes. It was a bit easier, and actually being in the trees was an amazing feeling, but I didn't want to be "the guy everyone has to wait for," so I stayed out of the trees for the most part and stuck to groomers and worked on carving and doing little jumps in the park.

The one time I decided to get a bit gutsy and go into the trees by myself, I almost fell into a creek. I have no idea how deep that water would have been, but clawing myself out of that trench was by far the scariest moment of my life. lol.

At least I was able to give the skiboards a real chance in tons of varying conditions. I'm going to use the skiboards when I want to visit places on the mountain that I just can't get to on my snowboard.

Ugh, why does having so much fun have to hurt so much the next day? I'm actually not feeling it so much in my legs like I expected. My neck is really stiff though. I'm assuming that's from my amazing full-speed faceplant on Sunday. I sure hope that got caught on camera.

Yeah Paul, like I said on the ride home, you have to figure out what your prefered sport is. Jay was pretty extreme for only your third time on skiboards, and I hope you're able to meet up with some others of us and ride again on some shorter boards like the Revolts. If you can make it to Ragged, that would be awesome. Bring some more of those kimbap rolls if you do, especially the calamari.

Great trip guys!

Thanks for helping to put the house back in order before we split.

I truly enjoyed the conditions and the riding this year, finally got to open it up and push it to the max compared to last (being at full recovery from last years twisted ankle).
Rode the glades till I couldn't feel my legs any more and dropped some awesome chutes near the summit that I can't wait to try again next year.

It was everything JayJam was meant to be!

Great people,
Great mountain,
Great conditions,

... one Totally Amazing Trip!

Brick - Thanks for the truck. If there was any extra gas money.. you can pass it on to your dad as a thanks.

Tim - Thanks a $$million$$ for driving the 10 hrs home. I wouldn't be at work this morning (even at the "limited" capacity that I am right now) if I would have needed to take a shift on the way home. And Brick, thanks for being co-pilot!

Thanks Paul and Jeaho for bringing the special treats along. It's always good to expand your palate. Good Times

L8R guys,

can't wait for some edits!!!

No problem. Glad everything went well.

A big thanks should also go to James for stepping up and pulling the house together.

And Paul, I hope you continue to ride. Jay is a very different riding experience. I'm glad you got your tips wet in the woods, but knowing your limits is always the smart choice. I got good at riding trees by following snowboarders. I figured that if they could fit between the trees, I sure as hell could. Just keep riding with people better than you and you'll be killing the woods in no time.

Oh, and nice job on the face chutes! Nice to see y'all take those on. :)

Thank you everyone for making my first meet such a rad experience. Good times on and off the slopes. After only four weeks of riding I greatly owe you all for pushing me as hard as you did to get me to ride so big. I found a new love in my life with this sport and I see no end in me riding. Even if I wind up being the old guy on Spruce's.

We're all a little sore, but nobody brock anything. Brick has a nice gash on his forhead from a branch, but that's it.days.

let's not forget about dave's running into the door lol
hope you are ok by now

I got near home after 7am i think. I went through all the snow and just had to go into the garage of my apt. on the way down to the garage, there was a car stuck in the snow blocking the entrance. I called the guy to come down and it took an hour for him to come down. i got the shovel from the management guys and literally digged his snow out of the snow for an hour. i just had to. i was just so eager to go home. and he came down and without saying a word of "appreciation" he just drove away... gosh.. oh well but i got home safe.
can called today off =P and just got up. trying to keep up with all the posts and pictures from Jay Jam.

Yeah, Jeaho, it was great riding with you. I hope your neck heals up well. That was quite the nasty spill you took down that drop. I was more than happy to drive. I don't get bored easily, so driving down was no problem. I'll be interested to see your pics and vids to get a different perspective on the weekend.

The real question now is, did Brian and Dennis manage to stay out of Canada this year?

Affirmative... We were faced with one tempting decision tho about 10 min after entering NY. We went left.

I don't have FaceBook, so any pics/vids that people can post on the boards would be awesome. As soon as I have access to a computer, I'll post up some of my stuff.
