Hi kids,

I'm trying to take advantage of the summer/recession prices on a new pair of boards. I've had mine for a while and I'm looking for something a bit bigger. Right now I have a pair that are 90cms. What is a good overall size for a new pair of boards? I do pretty much everything: park, power, etc. I'm thinking a set of Revel's that are 103-105 cm, maybe even 110, but nothing larger than that. What do you guys think? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

height/weight is always the firat question. lucky me i will get to ask it this time. oh and i believe the store is still closed for another 2 and a half weeks or so. so you will have to wait till then to actually order them.

I would say that 110 would probably be the perfect size if you plan on doing EVERYTHING the mountain has to offer.

KTP's, Revolts, or ALP's.

The 103's I've seen in person look too small to ride in powder, but McTwist would know better than me.

Lol, no big deal about asking height/weight. 5'8 165 lbs.

I do love my KTPs, same height, but I'm 10lbs heavier. Anything you need to accomplish they can handle. The ALPs may also be good, but I don't have them, so I can't talk from personal expereince.

Also, check out Slow's chart for when you decide to verify it's a good choice.

Thanks for the chart, it was wicked helpful. I've made some calculations and it looks like 103-110 cm are going to be the most appropriate for what I want to do. Or so I think. 120s might be too big for park riding, but it would make it easier to land jumps.

I would personally tell you to ride ALP's or Revolts over KTP's, but I'm VERY biased towards flexy boards. I found my ALP's to be much smoother at cruising and breakneck speeds without sacrificing any nimbleness when compared to my old BWP's. So 110 boards do feel and handle a lot like sub-100 boards, just a lil flexier and wider. The extra length and width will bother you for the first week or so (I considered ditching mine) but after that, you will love them to death.

I don't think you were considering Condors, but I wouldn't suggest them if you are a 1-pair rider. There are people that DD the Condors, but most of them live in the west.

From what I've seen I would say the following:
KTP's can handle anything, park focus
Revolts can handle anything, middle ground (though Talon says too soft for the park)
ALP's can handle anything, cruising focus

120's may be good for jumps, but I've always wondered about their usefulness on rails. They might be too wide. They would probably be nicked up beyond belief (not that park boards aren't)

How much park do you plan on riding?

The differences between boards really depends on your riding skills. Good riders will be able to notice large differences between different board models. Excellent riders will be able to master any condition with any board (with the possible exception of 75's in pow :P).

Anyhow, that's all.
If anything doesn't make sense, I really should have gone to bed before replying.

I used to ride Line Jedi in PoW. :P Holy crap, talk about a work out.

I pretty much have to agree with everything Elk has said. Except the part about riding Revolts over the KTPs, but then again, personal preference. I really like a stiff board. I don't feel like I'm getting the full potential out of the board if it's too soft.

You're going to need to figure out what you like.

Pick either the KTP's, Revolts or Alps... which design you like best and go for it, you won't be disappointed with any of those choices for what you are looking for and for your height & weight!
Do you know what bindings you want/prefer?

105 would be a good bet.

Wound up grabbing a pair of Condors...110 cms. We'll see how they ride. Hopefully they're a little more stable than the 90s I was riding before. Thanks for the help folks!

I'd prefer non release bindings. I tend to drool over the Bomber Elites but on my budget, we're going to have to wait and see. I might wind up grabbing some used bindings when people are frequenting the forum.
