If so....WTF do you do to stop getting pounded in the face by snow?
I have a pair of rec-specs but the snow seems to make it's way inside of them, or even worse they fog up.. If I take them off I can't see all that good which forces me to feel my way down the mtn as I can't see any of the bumps, etc.. Blind man skiboarding isn't such a good idea...btw..
So besides laser surgery, what are some other ideas as my glasses won't fit under a pair of regular goggles, and these rec-specs don't seem to be the answer either.

contact lenses seem to be the obvious answer. other than that there are several goggles made to fit over regular glasses. You can try using anti-fog compounds which you can buy in a motorcycle shop, but dont use them on your specs if you have anti-reflection coating. If you wanna email me your spec prescription I will tell you if contact lenses are likely to work..........thats my job! drs2@freeuk.com.
Yea, definately go for contacts if you can. I can't wear glasses at all when I skate or skiboard... it throws me off so bad. One time I forgot my contacts before i left and it was miserable in comparassion. Contacts give you a lot more periferal vision, and they don't get messed up by the snow or fall off. I also feel a lot freer with them in. I dont know why, it just is.

I tried contacts once before...just for everyday wear but couldn't get them in / out at all. Not to mention that when my wife did eventually get them in for me, I teared so bad for so long that I acually chapped my eye sockets. I have a stigmatism or whatever that made it so the lenses I needed were almost the size of a quarter or some shit. I hate glasses, especially since I break frames every 2 months and end up spending $200 or so every few months for new ones. I have transitions lenses in my glasses so that anti-fog shit isn't something I'd try on those, but I would try it on my rec-specs.....it still wouldn't help the snow from getting under them though even if the anti-fog did in fact work. I guess I could try the contacts again sometime, but after the last time I just don't think I honestly can.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with contact lenses. I see people every week who were traumatised by a bad experience. Advice: try a different practitioner. Also, you need to make it real clear that you want them for sport. If your level of astigmatism is not that great, you might get away with not correcting it, which makes everything simpler.
If you can send me your spectacle prescription I will advise.

honestly, I don't know my prescription as I never saw it....lol
I just went to the optomitrist (sp) and ordered the glasses from there after my visits. Then when my glasses do eventually break every 2-3 months or so, I goto lenscrafters who makes me new ones based off my broken ones.
My wife said she might have it though somewhere....my prescription hasn't changed much at all in a few years though.

oh yeah man i wear glasses too, its a pain.
basically, on my regular specs, if i crash, they smash against my face and usually break - if not then im fine until they do.
if i wear goggles then they will protect my glasses from getting smashed, but i somewhat dislike goggles because they tend to cloud my peripheral vision, which i dont really like.
im getting a pair from oakley - they got this sport pair - looks like it can take a lot of abuse. prescription, and it wraps around your head, so....nice.
but yeah, so far, i just need to crash less!
I dont know if you guys get them in the US, but certainly in Europe we get a very nice goggle from addidas, model is Yodai. I got myself a pair which I have been using with contacts and have to say i feel i lose very very little in peripheral vision. These have a prescription lens option which is about £30 here in the UK.....

Before i got contacts my oakley a-frames fit over my glasses fine. Plus they give you great peripheral vision.

I've got a pair of Oakley's and I just wear them over my glasses. They fit just fine. Never really had a problem other than the bridge of my nose being a little sore at the end of the day from my specs getting pressed into it all day. But...you do what you've gotta do. I've also got a pair of Smiths that were MADE to fit over glasses...but I bought the pair of Oakleys because the Smiths are ungainly huge.

Phillycore - if you've got astigmatism, ask about the Toric Softlens. I've got astigmatism and these work great for recreation...I've also got very sensitive eyes. One thing I've found is that the new "no rinse" all in one solutions that supposedly clean your contacts without any rubbing really hurt my eyes. Stick with the saline solutions for sensitive eyes and take the extra couple of minutes to hand rub/wash/rinse them. It doesn't hurt nearly as bad. Hope you can use the contacts because like the others say, it makes a huge difference in peripheral and freedom-

Hi phillycore. Sorry to take a while to get back to you but access to the forum has been down for 3 days here. I am a little unsure about your script. There should be a plus sign (+) in front of the first number on each line if you are long sighted, and a minus (-) sign if you are short sighted. When there is no sign as here, it is a bit shaky to make assumptions. Perhaps you know if you are long or short sighted? Either way, contact lenses should be no problem. If you can confirm one way or another, I will send some suggestions by private message or email.

o d stands for occular dexter. o s fro occular sinister. o d is right, o s is left. We use sinister to mean anything a bit underhand, scary etc. Comes from the Latin sinister. Ticks me off that we dont just say right and left though. I hate bullshit!
