My review thus far:

Emailed to ask if they had demos, or other slightly used Summit Marauder 125's. Get a response from Taylor with a long list of options ranging from $125 to $225 with bindings or new for $299. I go with the $150 option as it was a 2009 model and was told not used much, I did this through a phone conversation. Next day Taylor calls me and ask if I was talking 110's and I'm like no, he first kind of blames me and says my email said 110's. To which I just respond the subject line says Summit Marauder 125's, and which point I heard him click and say, ops I messed up. He says the only option I know have is a 2008 model, I ask what shape they are in. He says they been ridden 6-8 days. Okay 6-8 days they should look pretty new still. He says yeah they have a few nicks you know but they are in great shape. He then says the best he can do on some new ones is $250, sounds good but I already told the wife I would be spending $150. He says he will knock off $25, to bring it down to $125. I once again bluntly ask, so are these trashed? No, they are in great shape says Taylor.

So a few days go by and they arrive through UPS. I open the box all happy to get these and when I pull them out I go from happy to very pissed off. These things are trashed.

Here is my email to Taylor 10-17-2009, I received the boards 10-16-2009, then I forwarded it on to Doc on Monday.

Taylor,

I just received the Marauder 125s today- they are not what I was expecting. There are VERY deep gouges in both bases, the laminating is worn off on most edges, and the rear release on the bindings show significant wear (WAY more than 6 to 8 days of use). The cosmetic stuff on the laminating I'm not too worried about, but the binding wear and the deep gouges in the bases lead me to believe the cores of these skis are probably worn out. These look like they were rented to freestyle/pipe riders for an entire season with daily use. I have skied for the past 2 seasons (3 times a week) on my Atomic ETLs and they look a lot better than the skis you sent.

These are not acceptable- I will be returning them to you via UPS on Monday. I guess since you told me you don’t have anything else available in the 125s, there's nothing to trade these for, so I would like a full refund since they are not in the condition I was led to believe they were.

Only thing I can see working out is if you can do something on a new pair with bindings for $200 (as that is already above what I was planning to spend).

Thank you,
Mark Odette

Then I receive this today from Taylor which is what pisses me off:

Mark,
I am sorry I did not look at the skiboards very closely. You are welcome to return them for a full refund. I do not have any other used 125s but please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Thank you,
Taylor

My first email to Doc 10-19-2009:

I was told to contact you as you are the owner / maker of these boards. I was going to post up on your forum, but I rather not do that as you might not know about this problem and I want to bring it to your attention first. Below you can read what is wrong in my response to Taylor, and to say the least I am very very pissed at Taylor for miss representing these boards. If he would of told me the true condition I would said I'll take the new ones. I wasted time, money to mail these back but I also realize having run businesses that owners/managers do not always know what an employee has done so thus is way my direct contact with you to let you know. I'm going to mail these out around noon time through UPS today 10-19-2009, and hope you take a look at what Taylor sent me claiming these were in great shape with slight nicks that you typically might get from use. So far everyone I have showed these too have said no way that is not what Doc would send out, and also recommended that I contact you as you are a stand up guy.

Please advise me if there is a solution we can come to, or if I should just expect a full refund to my credit card. Feel free to call me about this matter.

Thank you for your help,
Mark Odette

So I forwarded what Taylor wrote me to Doc 10-20-2009 along with this:

Doc,

Please take a look at the skiboards when you receive them back, I believe you will agree this was uncalled for and cost me $15.44 to mail these back when Taylor says he did not even look at them! How do you package a product without looking at it? So I'm out at least $15.44, as I assume I will get a full refund with shipping cost and if I do not that means I am out close to $30 when it is not my fault at all.

As I mentioned having run businesses myself the buck stops with you; the owner. I still hope something good comes out of this debacle There is no way I should be out of the return shipping even. As a business owner you know word of mouth is the best advertisement, obviously Taylor needs some training and understanding in that basic business principle.

I am still awaiting a response from you Doc,
Mark Odette

I then posted on his forum today. Again I am still waiting to here back from the man himself. My brother in-law told me I should post here a review to let other know. I mean I believe Doc will come through with something as this is ridiculous and uncalled for.

Maybe I should of just bought the Revolts, but I was going with something that the brother in-law had that I knew and as we both are close in skill that I too would be happy with...and good deals on Revolts? If Doc does not come through.

Pictures to come in a bit....

I hope this saves someone else the hassle and frustration not to mention the extra cost to return ship which should not be my responsibility. I will also update this post with how this turns out.

Yeah I had issues with Doc when I bought my Nomads...it's easier to just deal with G and other people over here.

Hopefully they'll refund you the shipping both ways. It wouldn't be good for business if they let a issue like that go sour, especially since their main competitor is known for having impeccable custome service.

I say give Jeff or Greco a ring to see what they can do for you if Doc doesn't come through.

Here are the pictures, I took a ton, but this was a quick review and edit so I could get them up ASAP. I would like to note my wife who has skied her whole life said no way to these, my brother in-law also said no way to these. These as best are $10 yard sale skis. What pisses me off, is that I bluntly asked if these were trashed, and got a NO. If Taylor would of said yeah these are very heavily worn I would of laughed and said I'll take the $250 NEW ones you offered me for the first mix up. Only reason why I said the relationship could now saved if you gave me new for $200 is because I spent $15.44 on postage, plus gas, plus time to mail, the hassle, and the being lied too I figure is worth $50 more off the price.

I am giving Doc till Thursday as that is when they should receive the skis back. I expect a business owner to check their email a few times a day, so really I am disappointed that I have not already heard from him. Seeing as I also gave my phone number in each email I sent out. I expect to hear from Doc soon I hope, otherwise I do not want to even pay $250 for Marauders and my brother in-law did tell me how people really love Greco, so yeah I might do that if Doc doe snot come through.

Taylor really should have mentioned the gouges in the base and said that the topsheet edges were knicked up all around.

One point I want to bring up is that your Atomic ETLs are cap construction so they won't show wear and tear on the topsheet as bad as the Summits which are topsheet construction. If you would prefer cap construction I'd give Jeff a ring at spruce to see what he can do for you.

I should of also pointed out the bro in-law said the laminate of the Marauders I was sent out to me was peeling heavily. The wife said she missed that before the first email was sent, but once the bro pointed that out she said ops. See I just ski, I do not get into the technical aspect of the sport.

So, sorry I did not know the difference between top coat and what not, still though the bro bought his Marauders USED from Doc which I believe are 2008's and they look mint, and we by no means go easy (although we do not do the terrain park so that probably is the difference in wear). This was another reason I went with Doc, he did my brother in-law good on a set, and did not lie about condition, although now that I think about it they did fail to tell the bro the bindings were miss mounted...but that was an easy fix.

My point was no way were those used for 6-8 days, and are in great shape. LOL they are far from great shape.

Wow! Those Marauders are beat to hell. I've dealt with Doc many of times. He has always come through for me. Give him a chance, and he'll most likely do the same for you.

The safe bet is to always deal with Greco. He's a sure thing when you want the very best customer service.

Doc seems to have come through, here is his email to me...and yes I am going to give him another try and told him $210 was okay and sounds fair. More then I wanted to spend, but I realize that is a great deal on new...and amazed he came close to my price.

Hi Mark,
I am sorry for what you have experienced. We are always on shaky ground when
selling demos as it is hard to describe condition accurately. Certainly you
can get a full refund. Our policy is always to do what is right by our
customers and we want you to be happy.

However, I am not sure that would solve the problem. I know you were
expecting 125 Summits and I think you would love the ride of these. So how
about I sell you a brand new pair with bindings for $200 plus $10 shipping
or $210 total. Whatever you paid so far plus return shipping costs we will
just add the difference and get a pair out to you.

Understand though that these 125's handle much different than the Atomic ETL
as they are wider underfoot. A few runs will get you used to them and raise
your level of performance.

Let me know if this works for you.
Doc Roberts

Doc is a good guy. He has been very fair to everyone I've seen him deal with. You got a great deal out of this afterall and I think you'll love these boards.

I got the new Summit Marauders from Doc as promised by him. I have not had the chance yet to ride these but they look great. In the end he came through.

If Doc sees this, I recommend that maybe next time on a used set, instead of the individual relying on another persons comments of "Great Shape" and "barely used" that you take a picture of the product in questioned and email the individual before the transaction is done. Would save a lot of hassle and frustration on both ends, and everyone owns a digital camera now and only would add a few minutes to your helpers time and email cost nothing.
