View Full Version : Full Tilt Model A vs Technica Mega 8
http://www.tecnicausa.com/site/skiboot.php?site=17&lang=12&idPrn=2&idN=8&idP=45
I bought these boots on impulse when I was checking out boots at a local chain shop. They're comfortable, but there is a bit of wiggle room for my heel in the Technicas. Would this be an issue? I have exceptionally thin feet being 6'1 and 148 lbs
The Technica boots fit about perfect when it comes to length at 27.5. I also tried on a pair of cheapo Dalbello boots at the shop and they fit nicely at 27.5 as well.
Update: I returned my Technica boots. I'm debating between:
1. Size 28 Full Tilt Model As. If there's a way to make this boot fit my 27.5 foot I'm all over these. 150$
2. Size 27.5 Dalbello Krypton Rampage They're a little heavier than the full tilts apparently. 275$
3. Size 27.5 Full Tilt High 5s. Oh god my wallet. 340$
Update 2: I bought the Full Tilt High 5s. I figured I'll go by the philosophy of "buy once cry once." Can't wait to try them on!

those are very wide boots = EE
the flex is alright for skiboarding. if you are not used to fitting boots however, a lot of people mistake comfortableness for too big-ness. new boots should be snug, almost uncomfortably snug at first. when you stand up straight, you should be able to feel the end of the boots with your toes.

Yeah man, if they are comfy now, they will only hurt you on the hill.
The sales associate kept telling me the boots fit narrow when I asked. I guess that's why I get lateral wiggle. I'm not really sure why he suggested these boots for me after measuring my very narrow feet.
I'll go return these now. I'm gonna make a gamble on the Full Tilts unless you guys have another suggestion in the 150-300$ range. I'm just worried they might be a little too long at 28 since for Technicas I wear a 27.5 when my normal shoe size is more of a 10.

If you look at this and say ''TL;DR" here are the points I want you to see.
Use Roussel's advice for sizing boots
Talk to Mark about full tilts if you have any concerns
Full tilts are absolutely incredible
If they fit, go with the Full Tilts, they are more than worth what you pay for them
Use Roussel's advice for choosing boots, if they don't fit the way he says they should fit tell the associate that you think there is something wrong and that when you actually break them in they will be too big. My normal shoe size is a 10 and I think I'm in 26.5s so that's what you should be in. I was measured wrong two seasons ago, bought the boots, used them for a season and a half, and ended up buying a new (used) set of boots from Mark. I'm currently riding Kneissl Flexon Pros which are exactly the same as full tilts, I can honestly say that if you are curious about full tilts in any way, ask Mark. He can answer any questions you have, at least I think he can. I will never go back to a traditional ski boot after using these things.
Yeah, that's the exactly the sort of stuff I've been reading that make me wanna go for full-tilt/raichle flexons. Since I'm running a half size smaller on Technica/Dalbellos the Full Tilt's model As at size 10 are going to be too long.
Is there fitting that can be done to accommodate for this?
I'm doing a google search and I'm having a hard time finding any full tilts in 27.5 that arent 400$ or more. I should have bought these earlier in the season!

Full tilts actually fit a bit small
You think I should gamble on those 150$ size 10 model As then? All the Camos and bumblebees across the net are sold out in 27.5 Everything that's available in my size is like 400$+
Right now I'm between:
27.5

and 28.0

Do you have another shop around you, it kind of sounds like they measured you wrong based on your explanation in your first post. I would suggest getting measured at one or two more shops make sure they are certified to fit boots. Do they have full tilts for you to try on at your local shop?

Highly recommend evogear.com I bought my FullTilts from them and got them heatmolded locally. Can't wait to ride them this year! Counting the days!!!!
I put 29.5 up there on accident, sorry. I think he ignored that the Technicas were too wide to make the sale. The length was spot on at 27.5 for Dalbello and Technica boots I tried on there.
I don't know of any shops in North Texas that carry Full Tilts.

Try on some dalbellos then, I think they are narrow.
27.5 Dalbellos actually felt pretty perfect to me. I'm thinking I might just try the size 10/28.0 Model As. Skis.com seems like it has a pretty decent return policy.
Worst case scenario I'll be out money for shipping and will then order those high 5s. I'm still curious if there's a way to make a boot that's slightly too long fit better. I've read that you can hollow out thicker smaller boots to fit.

Sounds like a plan, good luck man
Appreciate the help GoM. It's too bad there aren't any Kneissl Flexon boots on ebay in my size right now.
Do you really wear a 26.5/8.5? It still seems odd that we both wear size 10 shoes, but my toe hits the end of the box with a 27.5.

I don't know I need to ask mark again, I have the right size of boot now
You just need to get sized by a certified professional, that is your best bet.

whats weird is in all my sports I wear different sized shoes for nearly every sport, climbing I wear 9.5s, skating I wear 9s, skiing I wear 9.5 (I think), tennis I wear 10s, bowling I wear 10.5s...the list goes on and on...

I'm pretty much the same way. I switch between 9 and 10s depending on how close I want things to fit to my toe.
I found some Dalbello Krypton Rampages for 270$ in size 9. I'm tempted since the shells are the same.

Make sure you buy ones that seem a little tight at first. After using my first pair of 30.5's about 10 times they really packed out and my foot moved around a lot. I now have 29.5 krypton rampages and they are sung, but I still crankem down to the point where at then end of the day my feet hurt because i don't want my feet moving at all in my boot.
Also, consider buying a pair of Green superfeet soles. they are thicker/stronger than the factory ones that come with your skiboots so they can take up some room if your boots end up packing out a little. The 'green' superfeet are also supposed to be better for high impact activities.

What shoe size are you normally?

12/12.5, but i think a 29.5 is equivalent to 11.5 in usa shoe size.

That's surprising. How much climbing do you do. Usually climbing shoes are the smallest for most people. Usually want the tightest fit for that, especially if doing sport/bouldering. Trad you usually give yourself some leniency.

A couple times a week, I have tried everything from 8.5s to 10s and 9.5s are the ones that I get the best fit and most flexability with.
9s don't fit, my toes are curling in the end and 10s are too big and have too much movement.

For climbing a bit of toe curl in the end is good. It gives you a more stable platform on small footholds.

Man...it was so small that I couldn't even tie the shoe. I'm getting pretty good, still liking bouldering better than the wall though.
