View Full Version : Skiboarders vs. Skiers vs. Snowboarders

I m a bit new to the skiboarding game, but I can't help but notice all the animosity skiers have towards snowboarders and skiers. What is up with that and is that a real problem on the mountains or is that just some people talking smack over the computer. I had to laugh a few times on how ridiculous some comments are...makes me think the people responding are 13-15 year old punks who still need to grow up. So what's up with this controversy....do i need to bring my boxing gloves with my skiboards to the mountain? And is there any truth to the fact that skiboarders and snowboarders ruin the snow on the mountains....? Ride or Die.
Some people are just stupid. Skiers don't like Skiboarders because they say it's too easy...to which I say "then don't do it". I've never found skiing that much tougher than Skiboarding...it's mad easy to stomp tricks on 181s. Just ignore 'em... people shouldn't hate because of what others are riding, people should hate on assholes who sit on jumps. I HATE that. At one of my locals, every time someone builds a kicker it takes maybe 10 minutes before there's a big crowd of about 20 snowboarders sitting 10 feet up from the jump waiting for their turn to go off it, as if they can get any air with that kind of room. I'm sitting way up the hill waiting for an opening but the bastards keep on going over the thing like it's a little hill (half of them falling on the other side) and the crowd just keeps growing because "everyone else is doing it, it must be where I'm supposed to be." By the time I get pissed off, tuck it down without caring if i run someone over, and take the thing, there's not much left; it's all rounded off. So if you suck, please do not think it is your sworn duty to take every kicker like you're pro. THOSE are the people to get pissed off at...wasting my time...
So yeah if people start messing with you for riding skiboards point out that they suck, because I've never seen a GOOD boarder or skiier say shit all to anyone.
And if you're new to the game like you say, don't do like those snowboarders I just mentioned. Thanks.

The thing is if its just one skier or just one snowboarder.. they won't say anything to you. But if you get 2 or more where they can feel like big men then the comments will roll. I like to just go out and throw what i know.. and compliment them if they throw a sick trick.. no point in stooping down to their level.

i agree with u jd. those people that sit a few feet away from some massive jump n expect to get the most air they can. I dont sit there unless im watchin some kids tear it up, looking for a new team member. But they waste my time too by sitting there. like today i made a jump (opening day) n some snowboarders came and sat in front so i hiked up n i couldnt hit it. then a skier was going really fast and didnt pull up on the lip n screwed the whole thing up. the point of all this jabbering, is if u wana think your good, ride dont sit down and piss other people off, either ride or dont. thats why everyone gets mad. or at least me.

Us Skiboarders are very lucky that the animosity is SKIERS Vs. SNOWBOARDERS. As the *unknown factor X* I say use the advantage and stay out of their fights. Skiboards are similar and different enough to not attract too much negative attention, and I say its best to keep it that way.
Look like skis, shaped like snowboards.
We don't need more hating on the mountain.

yeah, I agree with you..
At the mountains near to me (The smaller one) it seems to happen more. At the more northerly ones (Ie, mt. snow / stratton / okemo etc.), they have enough parks that it's not that big of a problem. But around here, it really pisses me off.
The damn kids wait up at the top of the jump for what seems hours on end, only to go down to the jump, slow down right before hitting it, and end up just riding right over the lip (which is starting to look more like a nice little bump), sometimes falling and always cheering like they've done something incredible.
I also agree that together they get bigger balls.. think they're the tough shit or something, snowboarders try to say shit more than most skiers.. skiers are generally curious to know what they are, and I'm always happy to let skiers I'm takin the lift with know what the sports all about .
Yeah I actually get more skiiers asking "are those fun" or "are they good for tricks?"... But yeah, ^ was saying exactly the same thing as me... It's a worldwide epidemic apparently. Except here they're not dumb enough to cheer when they fall down ;)

I really think it varies. I have skiboarded at quite a few places and have never gotten crap from anyone. Mostly it's just people who are curious. I know it does happen though; I have seen fist fights between skiiers and snowboarders, which I just have to laugh at. I do all 3 and love all 3. No one is better than any other because each discipline has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.
And as for ruining snow, no one discipline ruins snow more than others. Rather, crappy people ruin snow. They stay on the same edge all the way down the hill and basically plow the snow off. It's easier to edge down the hill on a snowboard, so they get the short end of the stick, but I've seen plenty of snowplowing skiiers clear off a trail. Plus, good snowboarders who carve s**t up will use less snow than most skiiers.

thats where i think your wrong. i was just skiboarding today n i built a jump, or helped, n some skiers wrecked it n some snowboarders wrecked it. but snowboarders wrecked it the most. it wasnt very steep n was kinda long so they were carving n then rode over the top n i went n talked to them n asked them why they wrecked it they said [QUOTE]cuz i didnt get enough speed[QUOTE] that makes me mad!!!

I agree with your point, and should have clarified what I meant. Take a person who sucks equally on skis and a snowboard. They are going to clear off more snow on a snowboard because a snowboarder usually has more edge on the snow in addition to putting more pressure on the edge. But to make a general statement that snowboarders ruin snow is BS; I've seen plenty of snowboarders that use almost no snow to do their stuff. I think it all comes down to skill, not what the person's riding with.

when making a jump it helps alot to have your snowboard friends hit it first because their wieght is spread out more and it packs the jump. if you hit it with skis or skiboards right away its going to make 2 tracks in the jump because its going to pack the snow differently.. so yeah no one really wrecks things unless they arent built well or if they dont know what theyre doing and just go over the jump as if it were a bump.
its a lot easier just to pack down the snow while you're making the jump..
easiest by just pressing hard with the skiboard going lengthwise down it.. of course you'll be putting more weight on it when you're going over it, but it still wont be enough to just make two set tracks or anything

well when i make my jumps, not at my resort i take a board n put it at the base of the jump so the board middle isnt on the ground, then u stop on it until its good enough so u dont catch ur tip but at the ridge i dont have a snowboard:( so i have other people build my jump for me:D
so we need our friends snowboarders! not all of snowboard ppl are saying bad things about skiboards! so, if they r frieds - thats good, and thats can be useful:)

When i go skiboarding in the snowboard park which allow skiers, snowboarders and skiboarders i go in there i do small tricks nothing spectacular or amazing but i get better each time i go but the other 50 snowboarders there, that almost hit me and spray snow at me think i suck. I dont have nothing against them but they always have somethign against us.
Well you should have something against that particular group of people. We call them "Assholes". There seem to be more and more of these "Assholes" around every year. If only there were an effective way to get rid of them...

yeah, and the guys who make fun of skiboarders are the guys who chicken flap 2 feet or air on the big 50 foot tables.
(chicken flap=when u loose balance in the air and u flap ur arms around)
Yeah, i hear that, but I always called it "rolling down the windows", cause your arms go in circles, funny anyway. Until this year, I never heard crap from anyone, but I took my little 10 year bro skiboarding for his first time, and when he fell, some skiier like 18-20 yr. old shouted "thats what you get for being on the gay blades." I shouted "wow, make fun of the 10 yr. old, thats makin you hard."
Later that day, I saw this kid in the park, and he sucked. He had like crazy ass gear that his parrents probably spent over a grand on, so I figured he could at least do something. Damn. I was wrong. There was a like 15 foot table that he kept trying to 180, and he wasn't even clearing it. Every time, he leaned so far forward he could have headbutted the tips of his skis, then fell as they popped off.
During this time, my little bro was landing more than he was, and it was so funny. I think if I wasn't with my bro, I would have punched this kid in the face, because he still kept talking shit.
Damn assholes! It used to just be little kids throwing snow off the lifts. Now its kids who just suck and fucking have no right to be on the slopes. Fuck!

actually up here in sauveur, quebec actually, skiboarders are not ridiculed because there is a TON of them. Not as many as snowboarders, but there is a lot. The only problem is that were not allowed in all the snowparks, but we go in them anyways.

Where I'm at, may be surprising to you, snowboarders outnumber all two-plankers by about 50 to 1. Skis are almost nonexistant, and the whole mountain is all terrain featured from top-bottom, one yard after the other. The huge Snowboard rental megaplex is in the middle of the lodging area, while the tiny ski rental shack is located way in the back, hard to find.
Imagine what it'd be like to ride skis at a place like this-how much ridicule could a person get?
How much I would love to see that asshole twin-tip rider you're talking about to be over here. How badly beaten he'd be if he said something as stupid as he did.
The point I'm trying to make is, it doesn't matter what you ride, jerks will be jerks, and they'll make fun of you no matter what. You'll have to deal with them no matter what you do or whereever you go.
Don't blame it on the fact that you're riding skiboards, and they're not.
Sad world, but I wouldn't blame all the hating because you ride a skiboard. Think of what it'd be like for a skier to be over here riding twin-tips.
this is right place where to tell what i wanted:
i saw 1 snb movie :
http://snow.plus.ru/collection/video/TB10_Optigrab-[TB10].avi
where in the end of film some riders with "snowblades" are doing some tricks, but it seems they are pissing the sport...ok, just that is what i saw, maybe, some of you could d-load it and see it, and tell what ya think! [i saw snowboard riders, who said : i like snowblading, it is so cool, and they was doing tricks, and specialy make them look horrible..ahh...just whatch it!!!]
p.s. be patient when u d-load it, because this is server in russian and its VERY slow, but you will be able to see what i told. ;)
oh, sorry, better dont d-load all movie!!!
i made a cut from it, and 10MB file which is in my GMAIL is waiting for sending;)
so, who wants that video? just tell me, i will send you 1, ONLY if your mailbox can fit it!!!!!
its realy strange video!

I didn't used to hate anyone on the mountain because used to do all three things(ski, snowboard, skiboard) but last season some snowboarder was in line with me and my girlfriend and her daughter he looked at them and said "i thought skiboards were for retarted people who couldnt afford real skis or a snowboard". It was a double chair so I was in the next line and he didnt see me. I i just yelled over and simply told him that I will do all he can do and more and I'll do it 100 times better. He was like huh? whatever dude. Thats all he had to say. Didnt talk anymore shit after that. On my local mountain snowboarders are 90% to 9% skiers and 1% skiboarders. I am finding it very hard to not lose my cool and I am starting to HATE snowboarders....cool or not...just because they are snowboarders. All the assholes make the cool ones look bad.

PureVenom, you ride Mt. High?
You said "On my local mountain snowboarders are 90% to 9% skiers and 1% skiboarders."
And you live in Huntington Beach. So that must mean you either go to Bear Mt. or Mt. High.
What boards you ride?

It depends....sometimes I ride my weapons and sometimes I ride five-o's. I do ride both of those mountains and Mammoth. Are those your locals?

hey kirk, some guy was shit talking a 10 year old?
hahaha
ask him to borrow his skis next time and show him up, if he can't land 180's on skis, he shouldn't be talking shit, considering 180's are easier on skis then skiboards.

Those are my local mt's, yes.
You'll see me there from time-time. I ride mostly Mt. High and Summit, not Bear, though. Mammoth is great too but the drive sucks.
They need an airport.
