View Full Version : Full Tilts
So I could use some new boots, I've had my current boots for about 10 years now and they are pretty sloppy. After reading about the full tilts on here and elsewhere I figured I should try them out. I first tried on the hot doggers and they were way way too tight. Then the dude that was more of a full tilt expert came out and suggested I try on the high fives because the liner is much thiner in them. They fit a lot better but after 5-10 min in them my feet started hurting because they seemed a bit tight through my arches. I know full tilts run narrow as people have pointed out here before but has anyone who rides full tilts had the same experience when they initially tried them on? Did they pack out enough to where they were better? I love the fact that they are so light on my feet and other than my arches being pinched together and having that aching on the outsides of them they are great. Before I drop like $450 or so on some boots I want to be sure that they'll not make my feet ache like crazy. Anyone have suggestions or experience they can share?
They have heat moldable intuition liners. Perhaps getting them heat molded would help remove the pinch points.

I have a couple of spots but after a little bit of riding they go away for me

If you're arches are getting compressed, then most likely they won't work too well for you. The one thing I might suggest trying (although I would have suspected the bootfitter would have suggested it if he thought it might help) would be to try them on with some footbeds with really nice arch support. As your foot sits flat in the bottom of the boot, it will spread out more. With the arch support in, your arch will be forced up which might narrow your foot out enough.
Basically, when it all comes down to it, don't drop that kind of money on a boot unless it is a great fit.

I just got the new '10 Konflicts so I haven't ridden them yet, but I was a little nervous when I put them on. After getting them heat-molded at a local REI (props for doing it for free!) the feel a lot better, but not quite 100%. I have a feeling though, after a day or two on the hill they will pack out just right and be silky smooth. Can't wait cuz they are so awesome in every other way!

Did REI use the hot air method to heat the liners or an oven?

Give me an update after you've ridden them a few times if you could. I think I'm gonna hold off for a little bit because I can't afford them right now anyways. Like you said though, they are great aside from them running a bit narrow. I tried on some Dalbello Voodoos and man they seem so huge in comparison to the Full Tilts.
Oh, one other thing that seemed weird to me was that they told me I was a size 27.5. I wear a men's size 12 shoe and when I looked up the size chart a 27.5 correlates to a size 9. When I mentioned trying on a 28.0 they said how it wouldn't be good because going bigger wouldn't help my issue if the length was good with the 27.5's. I'm thinking I may go to another place tonight and see what they say but thought I'd throw it out there to see if the sizing thing sounded odd to anyone else?

Did your boot guy go inside the shell to move the cable to its widest position?
When I bought mine, the base of the cables were in the tightest position. Once Mark told me there were three different base positions inside the shell, I pulled the liner out and moved the cables. Voila. Magic.
And they feel great now.

hmm, he did not. Do all of the Full Tilts have that option? I'm not sure if that would help or not but I'll definitely try that tonight if I need to. Thanks for the tip.

I imagine all the full tilts would have that option. I have the Camos.
It helped me because I had the buckles on the outside maxed out to the widest possible setting and the boots were still a bit too tight on my forefoot.
Once I went inside the shell and moved the base of the cables to a wider setting, I could latch down the cables and not have the shell pressing down too hard on the instep of my feet. I have fairly high arches. This adjustment eliminated my problem. That addressed the "height" of the shell issue.
The boots were still a bit too tight though - could feel the narrowness of them barely scrunching my forefoot. Once I had the liners heat molded, my foot fit just right as far as width. I have no slop side to side at all, which is great but they are not scrunching my feet now either. The dalbellos were too wide on my feet and I knew my feet would be shifting side to side if I went with them.
........when I looked up the size chart a 27.5 correlates to a size 9. ...........
I beleive that the conversion from mondo to US mens sizing is as follows:
add the first two whole number digits in the mondo size and tack on the decimal
As an example: 27.5 mondo = 2 + 7 and .5 = 9.5 US men

So I was close, that's what I thought. Still weird. All the shoes I've ever bought have been either 12's or 11.5's. Tonight I went in to a different place and I just told them my shoe size (12) and they brought out the mondo 30.0 boots. Way too sloppy, then came the 29.0's, still to sloppy. Then I put on a 28.0 and it seemed to fit perfectly. I don't know why the other shop was so reluctant for me to stay at a 27.5 but I think that was it, I just needed to move up to the 28.0. This place only had the booters though and they were really flexy. They had a great deal on last years model for $340 but I didn't know if I wanted something with that much flex. Does anyone else think the booters are a bit too flexy and am I right with not getting them or would they be fine after all?

I wear a size 11.5/12 shoe and my Full Tilts are 29........sounds like either there was some sort of misunderstanding or the boot guy didn't know what the hell he was talking about
your boot guy isn't very knowledgeable. the high fives are the "middle of the road" boot. the hot doggers have a softer liner and tongue and are mainly for park riding.
i have the high fives and love them more then some of my family. jk
I think I'll go with the 09 high fives then. Has anyone tried on this years and last years? Is there any difference in the liner? I tried on this years but found some 09's way cheaper online so I just want to make sure they are essentially the same.
The 09 will be justtt fine

I tried 2010s in the summer when I was in Washington, they feel about the same as my flexon pros from a long time ago that I just bought from Mark last year.
