ROUNDTOP IS OPENED

I went there today. they re-made their park. at least 10 different rails. it was very nice. i got to practice rails and for the first time, i could do these rails haha

snows were good. not that many people. but there were lots of little kids as usual. but if you go to more advanced (black diamond) there's no one.
i practiced fakie, carving and all.

it was very fun.

ive never been to roundtop but i do like how close it is and its gotta be better than ski liberty. the trail map says theres only two black diamond trails. were they both open? it looks like they start at the top as double blacks then become blacks. can you ride through the trees in either?

those two black diamonds were not opened. but they were making snow on those slopes.

there are no trees on roundtop.
those two black diamonds are just very stiff with some bumps like moguls.
one of them has very big bumps... you can see it as huge moguls in a very stiff slope.

i remember it had better parks than roundtop.
big jumps and cool rails.
i don't remember about other slopes... snow was melting and it was very bad when i was there last year.
but it should be pretty good by dec 28th and 29th i believe.

Whitetail and Liberty kinda suck...... 7 springs is the shiznite and no on seems to know about Blue Knob..... years ago buddy and me did some nice off trail riding through the trees it was sweet. Not crowded at all either.

Dude I feel your pain coming from Germantown...Gaithersburg for me....and last winter I lived in an apt in Springfield, VA. That was mad weak.

I just hit Blue Knob for the first time last weekend. When I called the day before they said they had the whole bottom half of the mountain open, I show up and they have 2 greens and a blue and one lift only on the top half. Total BS. I do need to get back there this winter and see what that bowl is like, and see that trail that's like 2 miles long.

Some of y'all PM me when you're heading out to any of the local spots (Whitetail, Liberty, Wisp, Knob, etc). My two friends (a skiier and a snowboarder) that I normally go with are both going to be out of town for Christmas and I tend to get bored when I go alone (damn you ADD).

I don't live close enough to get there for weekday evenings. It's about a 90 minute to 2 hour drive to get to Whitetail for me and unfortunately I'm stuck in corporate rat race hell until 5:30 or 6 every day. Weekends anywhere within 2.5 hours of the DC area are cool with me.

It would be nice to ride with some of you guys to pick up some tips to take my years of riding regular downhill with both skis firmly on the ground into the park to have some fun.

I'm just looking to branch out. I've spent the last almost 10 years going from top of mountain to bottom of mountain as fast as possible, then getting on a lift and doing it again. This year I'm looking to branch out some more and just learn some new stuff...carve some new lines, get some more air, etc. Just find some new ways to enjoy the mountain.

Did anyone make it out to Roundtop, Liberty, or Whitetail this weekend after the snowstorm? York, PA got about 12 inches of snow. I went to Liberty today with my sister & brother-in-law. First time out on my 2010 Revolt Bulleyes or on any skiboard for that matter & first time at Liberty. Frontside of Liberty was very windy, backside was no wind; absolutely the place to be. Had a blast once I got used to the turning.

Is it normal to favor turning on direction over another? Turning left is very natural & easier for me than initiating a right turn. Probably need more time on them too. Practice...practice...practice.

I'm looking to go on Saturday (even if it's only for a 4 hours pass) and next weekend to tune up before I head up for my big long weekend trip to Hunter (NY). My last time out I worked on some grinds on the top of the halfpipe and just trying to get comfortable in the terrain park because I've never been a trickster before...I'd like to have a few tricks in my bag for when I take my trip. Anybody who wants to practice together and bounce ideas off each other let me know.

Will be heading out on the 12th. I don't mind driving 3 hrs, but have reservations about where to go. I've been to Whitetail, Roundtop, and Liberty numerous times. I was thinking of going to wisp. How does it compare?

Also I saw mention of 7 springs and blue knob. I never even heard of those places. So what's good people? Help me find a place to ride. Also I'll mention I'll have a friend with me whose beginner/intermediate...

Wisp is bigger than the Whitetail/Roundtop/Liberty conglomerate, but not necessarily nicer. They actually have a green hill that's real long and one of the sides raises up almost like a quarterpipe, so if you're a fan of technical riding it's pretty fun. I like the amenities (terrain park, higher speed lifts, etc) at Whitetail the best of the ones in this area.

Blue Knob is nice but last I checked isn't 100% open. As of last week there were still a few blacks they hadn't opened yet.

Unless something drastically changes I will be at Whitetail on Saturday, probably getting there early morning and staying until sometime around dinner time. I'll be with my buddy who's an advanced to expert skiier (regular long skis) so I'll probably spend the day alternating between blue runs, black runs, and the terrain park. Also...just got back from Snowshoe weekend trip w/sportbike buddies. :thumbsup: 100%. It was snowing all day/night, nice natural snow. Crowded but not like Xmas weekend crowded. Their terrain park is vicious (muiltiple rails and jumps). Every trail had little jumps built into the side. let my buddy borrow my skiblades while I rocked my new Line Mike Nicks. What a world of difference from snowblades!! Even my buddy on the skiblades was rockin the slopes. He is selling his skiies now and taking my snowblades.

Saw about 15-20 other skiboarders including one dude on the pink Bigfoots!!! None were very friendly though :(

DIG - check ebay and craigslist for deals. I've found lift tickets cheap on Balwmer and DC craigslist. Most the ebay stuff is obscure usually crappy resorts so beware, but sometime you luck out.

whitetail takes about 1.5 hrs
and roundtop takes about 1 hr
both without traffic.

Liberty = friggin icy. Kinda sucked. Very crowded...lots of little kids and newbies. We're all newbies once...but lifts kept having to stop and people/kids falling all over the place. Boots with stock footbed messed up my feet after a while had to stop!

Liberty, Whitetail, and Roundtop all still have a 3'-5' base layer of snow.

It's gonna be slushy, but they might stay open for a few more weeks.

I'm afraid the MD season may be over. I may be the only person I know that is walking around depressed because it's getting warmer.

I'll second the depression at it getting warmer. I'm not in MD, but up here in Southern Ontario it's looking like the season is drawing to a close with 6 days of rain forecast to start tomorrow.

Live Cam looks great. Still white on the ground. I have to try the Condors so I am going tomorrow after work. If anyone wants to meet I will be at Roundtop around 6PM, unless we get rain tomorrow.

Well gentlemen I'm officially calling it a year. I made that decision when I walked out of my office today with no jacket and my sleeves rolled up and wasn't at all cold. It's been a great season and I can't wait for next winter.
