Feb 26-27 at Sand Bar State Park in Milton, Vermont (20 minutes North of Burlington) will be a FREE snowkiting festival. If you haven't heard of snowkiting, it is skiing, snowboarding or SKIBOARDING behind a giant kite that is powerful enough to lift you of the ground or achieve speeds up to 55 mph!
I tried it last year with skis and had a blast. I think skiboards would be perfect for snowkiting, so I plan on using them this year.
For more info about Kitestorm 2005 and snowkiting visit www.stormboarding.com (http://www.stormboarding.com)
I'll also try to attach some photos.

I picked up a kite this season. Still learning the "drive" it well enough for skis though. It's a blast even in light wind.

Ian.cap, you should come down to sand bar. Flying it on the open ice is easier, and the shorter length of skiboards should allow you to focus more on the kite and less on where your tips are. Plus, there will be free clinics. And, hopefuly a bunch of skiboarders there.
Greco, you should go up if only to promote SBOL. I'd bet, if you has some demos for snowkiters to try, they'd get hooked. Next, they'll want 'em for the mountains and parks. $Cha-Ching$

Dylan - I actually stumbled on their website a few months ago. A friend of mine introduced me to the sport a few years back but I finally got a kite this year. It's just a 1.8 meter so it's just to get a handle on flying. I almost posted a thread on it a few months back but never got around to it and I actually haven't been on my boards yet with a kite. As long as I can get someone to watch my kids I can make the event. It's not that far from me.

They'll have some kites there. Most people who go don't own one. The event is as much for people new to snowkiting as it is for veteran kiters. They will also have beginner workshops and demos.
I have a small 2m kite, but last year I flew an 8m and it was enough to stand me up (200 lbs) from a sitting possition. Its loads-o-fun.
Also, If anyone in the NY, NJ, PA area wants to go, maybe we can set up a carpool/caravan.
Ian.cap, bring the kids!

Would love to bring the critters but they're too young this year. I have a three year old and a one year old so I would spend most of my day chasing them. I'm most likely going to go though. Too close for me not to!

Hello Skiboarders,
Rachael from Stormboarding here. Thanks Dylan for posting the Kitestorm and introducing me to this site. The timing is great as Rossi just hooked me up with a pair of skiboards to test for teaching and riding. I tried them out last weekend on a combination of slushy snow and ice, 8-10 knots of breeze and a 10m Frenzy kite. I had a great time riding and jumping and they were perfect for skating around to help new snowkiters.
We would love to see more skiboarders up for the Kitestorm and in the sport of snowkiting. We are the only certified and insured snowkite school in the Northeast, we also sell kiting gear and put on the Kitestorm a free demo event Feb 26-27. For more details about both, check out: www.stormboarding.com
Feel free to get in touch if you have questions about snowkiting and we'll look forward to seeing some of you here in VT at the end of the month.
Think snow and breeze,

thanks for joining. i found this on your web page, i don't know what it is but it scares me.... :D
Stormboarding students take 10% off a kite purchase after your lesson and everyone who buys a new kite will also receive an ice screw.

It means that you get some good deals for coming out for a lesson...but my guess is it is the ice screw that is throwing you.
We use ice screws so that there is a safe way to keep the kites from blowing around when they are not in the air. They have brake lines which we attach to the ice screw when the kite is on the ground - makes it easy to deal with when you are setting up or landing the kite alone (or your buddy is too busy ripping around to help) and gives riders a way to have the kite ready for an easy re-launch.
Think snow,
