A bunch of friends and I rented a house in the pocono's last weekend which gave me the opportunity to go skiboarding 3 days / nights.
Spent Saturday am at Jack Frost from 8 - 3:30 mostly tearing up the woods runs and expert hills (floyd's, telestar, etc.) but I did manage to get some time on the terrain run. First time I ever hit a platform and nailed it first try.... I was stoked so I hit the rainbow platform and nailed that as well. Both had runoffs so I didn't really get any air or anything, but I was happy just to get over them without bustin a nut.
Saturday evening was spent at Big Boulder from 5 - close Spent most of the night in the terrain park all the way on the left of the mountain as they had some memorial going on for a fallen snowboarder or something and had the other terrain park closed. Hit a few jumps and only landed 2 of them. Mainly was just trying to learn how to land.
Sunday 8am we hit Camelback and spent most of the early morning hours hitting the black diamonds (cliffhanger, rocket, marjie's, etc) did manage to hit the terrain park a few times. I got a little better at the jumps and landed about half of what I attempted. Took a few runs in the half pipe as well. We left the mountain around 4 as we were heading out to the bar to watch the super bowl.
Monday 8am back to Camelback and the place was dead. We were able to round robin the lifts without any wait whatsoever. Skiboarded right up to the lift and hopped on (well after I waited for my buddy to unhook his snowboard anyway...he has step in's so it's not that bad) Around 10am we hit Laurel Glade terrain run over and over. I really had the chance to get the landing down and eventually I was landing every jump I hit. I attempted a boot grab and nailed it once, but I was really just trying to get the landing down. Turns out that the majority of my problem was that I was not getting straight up and was landing on my heels. Then after a few bad wrecks I would scrub off the speed and I was actually jumping on the jump rather than letting it carry me into the air. I have to say that practice makes a hell of a difference. This was the first day where I actually had the chance to practice jumping. Normally we'd just hit the jumps once in a while and I'd do it and crash, then we were off to something else. Doing this I never really got to feel what I was doing and couldn't learn from it. I'm pretty sure that I got it down pretty good now and after we left the laurel glade run we headed over to the rhododendren terrain run where I nailed those jumps on the first attempt as well. I did attempt one rail and bit it hard, so that's going to be a little down the road from now.
Anyway....Just wanted to share, and this 300lb 31 year old is stoked that he can now jump, get air and land repeatedly without a face full of snow.
