View Full Version : changing edge angle on KTP's

Saturday evening I grabbed my KTP's thinking I'd keep nailing my legs but give them a touch of a break by going with a smaller platform. The bunny run was packed down solid. The KTP's were horrid to me with a 0 degree side. They were grabby, tried to high side me time after time and felt totally foreign. I couldn't believe what they were doing to me. I ended up taking them back in and grabbing my 120's.

Has anyone slapped a 2 degree side edge on the KTP's? Any suggestions?

Wouldn't a 2 degree edge angle make them even more "grabby"?

maybe detuning the tips and the tails instead ?

I've always had no side or base bevel on my KTPs and they've never felt grabby to me at all.

I experience it on the ALPs a lot though. And I'm not sure what the angle is on those. Have not gotten an edge tune on them so they are at whatever RGZIP had them at when I bought them from him.

My KTPs aren't grabby either. I'm wondering if maybe the KTPs are different enough from your other boards that maybe you aren't quite getting them up on edge for some reason. If you're high-siding, that means the downhill edge of your board dropped enough to catch the snow. Try taking them out again as they are and trying to be a little more conscious about staying in nice smooth linked carves down the hill.

I never changed the edge on them, but I did try sharpening them once, maybe I didn't do it well.

I also don't think I detuned the tips on those. I did detune my new one's and really like it .

That could be it. Thanks Rick, I'll try it.

Detuning. Forgot about that little detail. I did sharpen well, though. Crap. Thanks guys.
