View Full Version : New to board... asking for recommendations
Hello! It's good to see other skiboard fans!
I have Salomon Buzz 90s from a few years back (my original pair) and I think I would like to upgrade. I seem to get the vibe that there is no love for Salomon, so what do you recommend for a casual skiboarder, more cruising, no tricks (I'm way too chicken).
Thanks for the input!

Kat,
Check out the Canon Heritage or the SnowJam 90's. Both would work well for your size and riding preference.

I was skiing this past weekend...and noticed these ski boarders just ripping and havin a great time. I want to join the party! What is a killer board for an all mountain experience. I will probably be carving more than tricks. oh, me I am 5'11 and 160 so what board length is good and what about bindings? I have a nice pair of dalbello boots that are comfy. any comments I just can't wait to get a pair!

hey I was looking at Canon neal lyons pro, canon m7, and groove brinton gundersen pro. what is the difference? what is the best? also what binding revolution x I want a safe binding but i want a snug fit or tight boot to board feel. any comments graciously accepted!

Safe bindings: Spruce Risers.
As for the boards, the Neal lyons and M7 are Identical aside from graphics and the fact that the Neals are a bit stiffer.
The Gundersons are a different board. I ride them, cause they're stable on landings, and they're the best board for the whole mountain, for the glades, the trees, and above all else, the pow. The speed on them is unreal, it takes no time to get going; I think it must have something to do with the sintered base, because I've never felt that before.
The Canon boards are the board of choice for park and pipe riders, and by all reports they're damn good on the rest of the mountain too.
So you can't go wrong with those 3.

Janee,
the BG Pro's are wider all around than the Canon's so in theory they should be faster and float in powder better. You may or may not notice any difference between the two. You'll be able to go anywhere on the mountain with both, but if you're planning on hitting a lot of powder the extra surface area of the BG's might be desirable. Like JD said, you really can't go wrong with any of the 3 you mentioned. You're gonna love them regardless of which you choose. My gut feeling tells me the BG boards might not exist this time next year though...it seems like Groove is getting out of skiboards.
Cool, thanks for the input! I'm going to the mountain this weekend and I can't wait.
Just out of curiosity, why the anti-Salomonism? is it a quality issue or something?
Their bindings are plastic and have horrible durability, their bindings are placed back form center, the boards are too thin, they have a foam core so they don't have any pop and die really quick, and that's also a durability issue, and salomon doesn't give a flying F&%# about skiboarding.
That being said I do own a pair of Buzz 99s that were my first boards. I got good on them so I can use them pretty well, but they just don't perform.

If people continue to purchase more and more BG Pro's, Groove will have more boards to sell, making money, and perhaps continue to have a good lineup. Skiboard companies go out of business or change products simply because they're not making sales, more that than any other reason.
They are a business after all, supporting the skiboarding craze is only secondary.
so if ya'll want to really support the companies, get some skiboards, and tell other people to *buy* them instead of renting the garbage Saloman/Elan/Plastic crap out there. And maybe drop a line or something somewhere they can see: That they make a good product.
I don't want to sound like some sort of nagging nanny, but I don't want to see companies drop off and seeing a good sport die. So go out there and buy some. And encourage people to do the same. Hell they're not that expensive. Compare them to Skis and snowboards, and you could possibly get 2 maybe 3 pairs for the price of the best Burton or Scream X.
I don't know if it had anything to do with me, but this time last year, I asked somewhere on some forum for Groove to bring back the BG 99's and they did. Maybe other people asked for them as well, but truth is, it worked, and they're here.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the 411...I flipped a coin and chose the canon neil lyons pro w/ spruce riser releasable bindings....I hope I wont be disappointed. It seems like the neil lyons is stiffer and I am 5'11 160 on the cusp of needing a good stiff one....so thank ya'll
