Sorry about that, shortydude. But remember...you asked for it! ;-)

Here's a sampling of Hot Rize. They're based out of Boulder, Colorado and my #1 favorite of the "modern" bands:

Country Boy Rock and Roll: www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6DzxgjWne8
    Midnight On The Highway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGba...Hc3T_vbTmPczWt

This Larry Sparks segment is from a show on the RFD channel:

    John Deere Tractor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGba...Hc3T_vbTmPczWt

Fedfan mentioned the Johnson Mountain Boys among his favorites for good reason. Unfortunately they're no longer active but here's a live performance from a few years ago:

Here's Bill Monroe's distinctive version of Hank Williams' Alabama Waltz. Monroe can be an acquired taste, and this one is not for the squeamish:

Finally, here's a Flatt & Scruggs "Martha White Flour" show from back in the day. The Foggy Mountain Boys were in their prime and smoking hot. It begins with 'Flint Hill Special', one of Earl's trademark instrumentals. Goodness Gracious!

Also this is my first post and will be my first season riding RVL8. Can't wait to see the snow!
Welcome to the forum! I do like Empire of the Sun's music, but I like their interviews even more!

Great stuff, BILL!! You got me stirred up now.
    Here is my favorite JMBoys:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIJv-JXgiJ4
(Dudley Connell's one of the great 'ears bleeding' lead singers, IMO)

    and Hot Rize:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SaJDGfQus0
BTW, I'm a serious admirer of the late Charles Sawtelle's guitar playing.

Here's a couple of Jimmy Martin faves:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKAPapGI5wA
(This might be a cover of a Hank Sr. recording)
    and
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzKXZyFFgCw
'The Last Song' is another good one. He was a great rhythm guitarist, too. Did some some nifty bass runs.

Larry Sparks has done a ton of great stuff. Really like Georgia Peaches, not sure who the singing partner is:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC-o9jaqluQ
    Another great guitarist.

I get a kick out of this Flatt/Scruggs song. It's a great example of Josh Graves' virtuosity on an instrument (dobro) that wasn't standard to bluegrass at the time.

On that note, something that has always impressed me about Scruggs and Don Reno on banjo is how far ahead of their time they were. They were masters of their instruments at a time when their particular style of playing (3-finger) was just being established.

Speaking of Don Reno, here's a couple of examples of his banjo playing and his flat-pick guitar playing:
    Love Please Come Home
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BupVRG1kj7Q
    John Henry w/Ralph Stanley
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZXDPE6C8h8
    Country Boy Rock n Roll
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoHBQhAt5f4
    Freight Train Boogie
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19Uq_91CfD8

A couple Moore and Napier classics:
    Truck Driver's Queen
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsTAgtKX_dQ
    Lonesome Wind Blues
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPa_TdegvNY
Great guitar picking by Bill Napier, a multi-instrumentalist who spent a good bit of time w/the Stanley Bros before teaming w/Charlie Moore, who had a fine baritone voice.

And a few instrumentals I never get tired of hearing:
Get Up John by R Skaggs and KY Thunder
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVhWx36GFpI
Train 45 by Ralph Stanley's band, the Clinch Mt Boys. He could no longer play
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMydc293aVU
Southern Flavor by B Monroe and M Stuart
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NcCgsAMxhs
    Reuben by Flatt n Scruggs
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqci8CdgkzU

That should keep you all busy for awhile. :-)

    Current Favorites:
    RVL8 Yin/Yang Blunts, Spruce Sherpas (x2) & Ospreys, Coda custom Yetis v1 140
    Spruce Pro Primes w/Attack 13's (x 4), Bomber Elite 1
    Other boards I'm trying:
Summit Custom Carbon 110, Dynastar Twin 85, Coda custom Yetis v2 145

Probably electrorock or synthpop. Basically catchy alternative music with a large helping of electronic music mixed in. I would put AWOLNation on the hard spectrum of that

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2PsXT88UeU

and probably your chillwave on the softer side like Panama

Thank you for the welcome Shortydude and Bill!

Oh yeah, they are definitely out there!! Hahaha. If you catch one of their live shows its crazy, almost like being in a scifi slow from the 70's or something. The visual aspect of their concerts is really amazing.

    It's all good!
Heck I've been known to watch the PBS Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour on many occasions.

And when I feel like really antagonizing the family I'll flip on the Big Joe Polka Show and laugh/giggle like a school boy.

Fedfan I like your playlist. I hadn't heard most of those before since it's not a type of music I listen to but the music videos were really interesting too!
