Description

The 2021 RVL8 Spliff represents the culmination of over 9 years of research and testing of rockered skiboards. RVL8 had been producing traditional cambered (raised up under foot) skiboards for 6 years when they made the first ever rockered skiboard in 2012, the Rockered Condor. Rockered skiboards offer the epitome of powder performance. By rockering (angling up) the tips and tails slightly you open up a whole new world of float, but most traditionally rockered and zero cambered skiboards struggled to perform well on ice or groomed snow. There just wasn’t enough edge making contact to hold a fast line on hard snow. This is why RVL8 created the rockered and cambered 109cm RVL8 Spliff skiboards. With 3mm over 10cm rocker combined with 6mm of camber the Spliff is the best performing sub 110cm skiboards regardless of conditions. The true one skiboard quiver. The 2021 Spliff graphic is by veteran RVL8 designer Martin Azevedo.

Here are the first comments from RVL8 prototype skiboard tester Dave Stevens – “Another Home Run from RVL8. Wonderful stability, beautifully neutral handling, extremely comfortable ride, great edge grip, and that elusive ‘Big Board’ feel, all in a very cool format. Whats not to like?” ….read more

These are my second pair of Skiboards. My first pair, several years ago, were the Blunt XLs. I bought these on Greco’s suggestion because I found I was slarving around a bit too much with the Blunt XLs on hardpack and crusty days. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Blunt XLs and will use them without question, but on days where there is more hardpack/less powder, or warmer conditions, the Spliffs are simply superior. I am able to carve more vs. slarving, and I have a lot of control in turns. You can move fast in these and due to the width, feel quite stable. I don’t want to say that I don’t like too much speed, but I’m not 21 anymore, so I favor control. With the Spliffs, I can ski any style.

By this, I mean I can ski wide and in a UAP (universal athletic position) or narrow and parallel them. They handle hardpack well and even icy areas are fine. In powder, they are stellar due to their width….although on a true powder day, the Blunt XLs are more fun. Now to moguls…I’m not a mogul guy…I’m rather big and muscular and am best leaving the moguls to the young and lithe guys…however, my expert level wife skier likes to make me suffer, so, I have to be able to hit my blue and black mogul trails.

There is no question that the Blunt XLs are better in moguls, but the Spliffs are fine. If I was a better skier, the moguls would be easier. I’d say I’m easily an advanced intermediate skiers/skiboarder, but certainly not expert….with that being said, the Spliffs and the Blunts allow me to handle harder terrain due to their control and additional safety comfort.

I have recommended skiboards to my patients for years now and many have purchased. Everyone has the same experience: they’re fun and make skiing far safer. As a sports med doctor, that’s a win:win.

Buy these sight unseen and don’t look back…I’ve done that two times now (thanks to Greco) and I’d recommend the Spliffs (and the Blunt XLs) without any question.
